Catherine Cook

The concept that Catherine Cook and her brother came up with is very neat. For a better way to get to know her classmates they developed myYearbook.com. At the age of 15 and 16 the siblings got their older brother, Geoff, to develop the site for them. It was said to have been like “Facebook for high school.” What really drove her innovative thinking was seeing her older brother develop his own business out of his dorm room. By seeing him excel and succeed she knew it was possible for her too. She knew that even the smallest of ideas could make a big difference. The site now has over 32 million members. Since Facebook at the time was becoming bigger and seemed very similar to it, Catherine and Geoff came up with their websites message. myYearbook.com was about making new friends whereas Facebook was about the friends you already had. This helped shape their basis of their website. They started developing different features and apps to define their message. Users now had the ability to find people they would want to get to know based on the apps and features provided. myYearbook later became sold to QuePasa since yearbooks became less popular. Now came the new development of MeetMe in 2011, it was time for it to become global. Now people had the opportunity to meet people all over the world.

Fit Fuel

Sean Kelly had a very intriguing idea with his business Fit Fuel. He took an idea that was already invented and made it his own. Vending machines are very convenient for people to grab a quick snack or a quick drink. They even have vending machines in gyms which can defeat the purpose of a workout. When he was in college he came up with Fit Fuel. His business sold healthy foods to be put into vending machines. Eventually, by 2007, he was able to sell vending machines filled with healthy foods. This business was called H.U.M.A.N Healthy Vending. He partnered with Andy Mackensen to help fund this business along with Fit Fuel partners. Within the vending machines consisted of protein bars, yogurt, gluten-free products, and other healthy food options. Sean’s plan was to be the leading anti-obesity company in the country. To also help this cause, 10% of the proceeds are given to obesity-fighting and malnutrition charities. It is very clever how he built his idea from other ideas and that he is also giving back. He first came up with this idea by watching a women grab a coke before going on the elliptical. This shows that ideas can come from anything and anywhere. It is important to know that any idea can make a difference. In this instance, Sean just needed to observe in order to come up with something that could improve the product in this situation.

Erik Finman

What caught my attention about Erik Finman was that his career all started with a deal he made with his parents. He ended up dropping out of high school and the deal that came of it was that if he could turn a $1,000 into $1 million, he wouldn’t have to go to school or college. That is some deal. If I made a deal like that with my parents, I would think they were joking. He started with investing in a haul of crypto currency at the price of $12 in 2011. Not only did he invest in bitcoin but other digital currencies as well like Ether. At the age of 15 he started his own business from his room. The business was known as Botangle. He was able to hire employees, programmers, contractors, and freelancers. In his business he made it possible for people to type in any subject matter they want to learn and be able to find someone that could teach the subject matter over video chat. When he reached the age of 18 his Crypto portfolio now had the value of over $1 million. He is known as the youngest bitcoin millionaire. The first thing he did with this money was travel the world. I mean who wouldn’t! He is focusing on a startup which uses cryptocurrencies and is intended to help in the development of a satellite for NASA. As you can tell, Erik has already done a lot for his age and continues to do more. He managed to do this all without a degree. This shows that getting a degree isn’t for everyone and he proves that.

Donovan Discovers

Donovan Discovers was created by the young entrepreneur Donovan Smith at the age of 14. He is from Albuquerque, New Mexico where he started his business. His idea stemmed from his hardships in his childhood. He and his mother were homeless so with the profits from selling his product he always wants to give back to those in need. From making and selling his own soap he donates a portion to the homeless people in Albuquerque. From his incredible work he was shown on TV shows and more. A specific call from an interviewer he figured it was a local station, but it was actually Returning the Favor with Mike Rowe. They ended up creating Donovan’s store and gifting them a brand-new car. Donovan’s life greatly changed at this point. He used to just sell his products online but with this great gift he had his very own store. With having a store, he hopes to mentor those in need. He wants specifically to hire people that are from homeless shelters and those that are at-risk. By doing so, it will create a way for them to get back on their feet.

Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue

Maddie Rae came up with the business Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue. It all started when she was 11 years old from Fairfield, Connecticut. At the time slime was a big thing. At that age it usually is, and she was obsessed with it. When she went to the store to make it with her dad there was no glue to make the slime with! They were completely out and that’s where it all started. She decided to make her own glue for the slime since everywhere was slacking. How could a kid miss out on this childhood activity! She wanted to make she this didn’t happen. So, she created glue that was made for slime specifically. The ingredient she found to be the key was polyvinyl alcohol. She released the product in 2017 on Amazon and to other retailers. Since then, she has expanded her store to include all of the products that would be used in slime making. This makes it easier for people to buy exactly what they need and creates a place that everything can be purchased. She currently even has her own website at www.slimemaking.com.

Raelynn’s Materials

Raelynn Heath is a young entrepreneur that had her hit idea at the age of 4. I don’t know about you but that is insane to me that at the age of 4 she had her own business! I can tell you that that was not what I was doing at the age of 4. She is from Raytown, Missouri and started her business selling her own jewelry. Her business is called Raelynn’s Materials. She focuses on creating her own jewelry along with repairing others. The piece of jewelry she specializes in are bracelets. Her main platform for selling her product is on Facebook and Etsy. For her different types of jewelry, she makes it out of various materials. It varies from plastic beads all the way to polymer clay. Additionally to that, she even recycles different materials to add into these lovely pieces of jewelry. From this business she hopes to expand into the fashion industry. With her products she even donates back to the community by donating jewelry to those that have went through some sort of traumatizing event. Not only is she a talented individual she is also caring to the community. Just like any kid she has big dreams. She hopes to someday have a storefront in Paris and believes she will be a millionaire at the age of 16!
