My friend Addison is a very successful entrepreneur. He started dropshipping webstores, founded car dealerships, and has developed algorithms that help to maximize returns on the stock market. He also grew a lawn care business, which he sold when he was done with it.
A few years ago, Addison decided to upsell used cars, even though he knew nothing about the car industry or how to fix up cars with mechanical issues. However, he didn’t let that stop him. He bought and sold several different cars, including an Audi TT and a Mini Cooper. While he had those cars, he took the chance to teach me how to drive with a manual transmission. He didn’t let fear of the unknown stop him from doing what he wanted to do, and that has always been an inspiration for me.
After that, he turned his attention to programming. He began learning how to code from scratch, and figured out how to integrate his code with the stock market. He worked on his algorithm for over a year, and was relatively successful. The most interesting part was that he hated coding, but he did not let that stop him from seeing the big picture and getting the results he wanted. During that whole year, he kept at his project and didn’t let anything slow him down.
Addison’s love for learning and his persistence has always inspired me. He is obsessed with the entrepreneurial mind, and is fascinated by how people invent new products and come up with new ideas. He’s read complex and confusing books simply because they were written by people he wanted to be like, and he’s watched hours of monotonous speeches simply because those speeches were by his role models. His persistence to finish what he starts has always been inspiring for how I should live, and every time I think of giving up, I remember what he built just by staying consistent.
