Sarah Kaeck- CEO of Bee’s Wrap

Sarah Kaeck is the founder and CEO of Bee’s Wrap. For many years before starting her successful food storage product, people noticed her entrepreneurship spirit. She always had new ideas and was open to different thoughts and tips. She was smart and hardworking. Her company, Bee’s Wraps was founded in 2012 where she started her little shop right from her garage. Bee’s Wrap is made with machines that infuse a beautifully designed organic cotton cloth from Indonesia with beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil to make it safe and very flexible for users. Her motivation for creating this product was reducing the plastic packaging used in the kitchen with materials from nature. The wraps are ingenious.

Kaeck says, “It took a lot of educating to get people to understand what this wax wrap was for and to explain why you would use this instead of plastic wrap. I felt like I needed a name that was in some way descriptive, and something that everyone could relate to. Hence Bee’s Wrap.”

What can you do with these wraps? Bee’s Wraps are perfect for sealing containers, wrapping bread, snacks, sandwiches, and so much more. It is a simple yet beautiful design. Not only are her products safe for people, but they are safe for the environment as they are reusable, compostable, and biodegradable. They are also waterproof, airtight, and hand-washable- not to mention come in adorable and creative designs. Her company has become an enormous success with her products selling in more than 3,000 stores in the United States including Amazon. Bee’s Wraps are also sold in 41 countries throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. Yearly revenue falls between $5 million to $10 million. Her company now has partnerships with National Geographic, Patagonia, and her products were even endorsed by the American cook and television personality, Rachel Ray. Sarah Kaeck is a great example of someone who saw a problem (literally in her own kitchen!) and sought out a way to solve it for others to benefit as well.

Ben Pasternak: Teenage Tech Entrepreneur

Ben PasternakBen Pasternak looked like an ordinary teen, but behind the scenes, he was creating viral apps in his bedroom and would eventually start a multimillion-dollar tech company. Many teenagers play video games and enjoy the apps on their phone, but Ben did not just enjoy using technology, he wanted to know how it was created and why people enjoyed it. At only age 15, he designed his first gaming app called Impossible Rush. After only a few weeks of its release, it had gained over a million downloads. People with more power started to become interested in Ben’s work. Ben decided to drop out of high school and move to New York City after receiving numerous offers from tech investors including Greylock Partners and Tumblr’s former president, John Maloney. In 2016, Ben founded Flogg, an online marketplace for young adults to buy and sell products and network with others. Flogg grabbed even more people’s attention, and Ben received more funding as a result. The app, Sup, became Ben’s next tech business endeavor. This social networking app allowed friends online to meet in real life. The focus, ironically, was to encourage face-to-face conversations rather than virtual connections. A few years later in 2019, Ben focused on combining the food industry with the tech industry and co-founded NUGGS. NUGGS was a food technology company that made plant-based nuggets. They have since rebranded NUGGS and renamed it Simulate. They expanded to make a variety of foods with meat alternatives.

Ben knew his target audience. He made apps that teens and young adults his age would use and enjoy. As he grew, his business endeavors matured as well. Ben Pasternak is a great example of how a young entrepreneur pushed past his age barrier and even the stigma of dropping out of high school. He risked a lot by dropping out of school and moving to a different country, but his risks and perseverance paid off and he continues to be an inspiration to any young entrepreneurs. Brooklyn and Bailey are identical twins that first gained recognition from their mother’s YouTube channel, Cute Girls Hairstyles. They went on to form their own channel which has since gained more than seven million subscribers. Their entrepreneurial journey started in 2018 at the age of 16 with their mascara brand called Lash Next Door. After receiving hundreds of comments asking what their secret to getting their lashes to look like that, they released their mascara line. The mascara is made with simple and clean ingredients that create a clump free formula and are safe for the eyes. 2% of their profits also go to a United Nations Foundation campaign called Girl Up.

Recently their focus has been on their skin care line ITK. After experiencing their own struggles and lack of confidence with their skin, they decided to create a skin care brand. It took two long years for the girls to research and plan their products carefully. ITK partnered exclusively with Walmart and now can be found on the shelves of every Walmart. Brooklyn and Bailey believe in three important aspects for their brand: accessibility, inclusion, and diversity. Part of what makes their brands so appealing is their honesty and rawness with their viewers. Successful entrepreneurs do not hide the tips to their success. They find joy and benefit in sharing advice with others. Brooklyn and Bailey are no exception. Choon Ng: Inventor of the Rainbow Loom

It is hard to believe it has been more than a decade since the Rainbow Loom was flying off the shelves at stores such as Learning Express and Michaels. As kids, it was difficult to notice the true innovation of this little loom kit. It was simple to put together and fun to play with friends, but the tools and loom itself were crafted carefully and beautifully so they could make bracelets, necklaces, and keychains for family and friends.

Like most entrepreneurs, Choon Ng’s success did not begin overnight. Ng spent many nights in the basement of his home in Detroit creating new patterns and styles with little rubber bands and hooks. He hoped to impress his girlfriend, Fan Chen, to allow him to invest a good sum of money into creating this product on a large scale. However, until they were married, she did not want him to spend that amount of money. After he asked her to marry him, she fully supported his product, and they worked tirelessly to make this idea a reality. As migrants from the Southeast Asian country of Milaysia, they had little money in their savings. The money they did have, was to go towards their daughter’s education. However, they realized they had gone in too deep to stop now. A factory based in the US was too expensive for the Ng family, so they chose a factory in China. After ordering 10,000 loom hooks, they realized the factory had made the wrong sized hooks. Choon Ng had to resize the hooks by hand. Even after having a kit made, their struggles only continued. Choon Ng tried selling online and even taking his product to the local mall. No one seemed interested. That was until Cindy and Malcolm O’Hara, who owned a Learning Express store, reached out to the couple and ordered 24 Rainbow Loom kits. They then placed an order for double that amount. Shortly after, they placed an order for $10,000 worth of kits. Before they knew it, Fan and Choon quit their second jobs to keep up with the orders. The Rainbow Loom was selling like crazy across America. Michaels also began selling the units as well.

Since then, more than 1.2 million kits have been sold. Choon Ng’s story is an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs. The beginning of his and his wife’s journey creating their Rainbow Loom product was stressful and at times discouraging, but the reward for their hard work was great. If you are ever reminded of the Rainbow Loom possibly still sitting at the bottom of your closet, remember the time, care, and incredible innovation it took to create it.

Bella Tipping- Child Founder of Kidzcationz

The young Australian, Bella Tipping, was only 12 years old when she had the idea to create Kidzcationz. After going on a vacation that her parents enjoyed but she did not, she wanted to find a way that allowed kids to have an input on the activities and plans throughout a vacation as well. The idea is very similar to the well-known apps, Trip Advisor and Expedia, except it is intended for kids. Kids could now rate hotels, restaurants, vacation destinations etc., for other children their ages to see. It was clear Bella was very thoughtful in creating her company; she made a way for kids to review and rate destinations without having to provide any personal information and for their accounts to show avatars instead of profile photos. Her parents helped support their daughter, Bella, by investing 80,000 Australian dollars (roughly 55,000 US dollars) in her business. However, Bella would have to prove her dedication to not just her parents who were providing a generous amount of money but to other investors as well. One of the main concerns with Kidzcationz was security for the young users on this app. She had to make sure this would be a safe and enjoyable experience for kids. Bella attended many meetings which required a great deal of traveling but with the support of her parents and the persistence in reaching her goal, her business became a success. Her words were, “If you can think it, you can do it.” That is exactly was Bella did. Since then, Bella has been named in 18 under 18 of Fortune Magazine, earned the Won Young Citizen of the Year, and was even invited to a dinner with Present Obama in 2018 in Sydney, Australia. Bella is an inspiration to both young and old entrepreneurs. Her passion and persistence serve as a good reminder that success does not happen overnight but with hard work and dedication, it is always attainable.
