Piper: The new way to code!

I remember when I was about 13 or 14 years old, I found an interest in coding. That is writing code on a computer for software development. However, I ran into a major issue. There weren’t many options for me to learn how to do anything spectacular. I constantly became upset because the YouTube videos I was watching did nothing for me. That is why Mark Pavlyukovskyy age 27 created Piper. “Piper is a kit that helps kids learn about coding and electronics by coding their own computer.” Forbes

This kit is able to be bought on Amazon for a fair price. It helps students to learn how to code with a hands on activity kit. This way the students stay engaged with what they are learning and they are able to put what they learn to use. The company has generated over $3 million on Amazon alone, and growing fast!

Built by kids from the inside-out

Uncharted Play- The ball that is literally “LIT”

Do you remember a couple of years ago when those Frisbee’s with LED lights on them came out a few years ago? This product takes that idea and rolls it into a completely new device. These new devices come in the form of a soccer ball. The way it works is as the ball gets kicked around and played with, it stores energy so that a built in LED light is able to light up. These are not your cheapo “turn the lever 1000 times flashlights that don’t shine bright.” These soccer balls store up kinetic energy to light the LED bulb in the ball that keeps shining.

This product has been distributed in Africa and other countries that can utilize these balls in the best way. The developer of this product is 28 year old Jessica Matthews. She saw a need and met it with this incredible product. She has other ideas in the works such as a jump-rope that also stores energy but provides more light with more LED’s. Another product she is working on is a stroller that can store up energy to charge phones and other electronics.

We see products like this being made available for the military, to charge their equipment. I am excited to see where this technology goes and what new energy creating products are made for the general public.

Juke-Listen to music

“Pass the aux” may soon be a phrase of the past. With a new app on the market called Juke, users can turn their phone into an SMS fueled music que. The developer of this app is 16 years old. His name is Rithwik. It is super easy to use and great for long car rides or studying. While to app is open friends can text the user’s phone number a song they want to hear and it will be added to the play que on the users phone. With this new technology college students no longer have to fight about what song to play next. Everybody gets a say as to what song gets added to the playlist. With the free version of the app each song gets played through YouTube. If user would like to pay for the premium version of the app they can utilize either their Spotify Premium or Google Play Music subscription so that songs may be played through those apps.

I think this is a great idea! I am excited for updates and improvements on the app, but from experience, the app works quite well. I do find Spotifiy’s ability to create a shared playlist more beneficial to me. Yet, I see a great future for this app. especially when it comes to coffee shops or even our SAC on campus. I believe that students will find this app useful. And eventually coffee shops and other businesses.

Braigo- The New Way to Read Online

Shubham Banerjee is making big waves in the blind community. With a startup called Braigo Labs he is able to sell low cost printers that change internet text directly into Braille. This idea is revolutionary because before this technology existed all internet sights would have to be read aloud by the computer. This technology puts the power back into the hands of the blind. No more having to rely on a computer voice to tell you what is happening on screen

Banjeree has a vision to bring medicine and technology together in the right ways. To ensure that innovation is not being used for profit but to better the community around us. This is the vision that I believe many entrepreneurs should have. The “people first, money second” thought process, brings more people together and ultimately brings more people on board for the idea.
