Ryan and Perumal- Creating Sustainable Diary Products

The story Ryan and Perumal have to tell is unique and inspiring. So much so, that they have heavily incorporated it into their brand. The story goes something like this: in 2014, both Ryan and Perumal were vegan in an effort to avoid animal cruelty. However, this was a struggle. When they met, Ryan had drove thirty minutes just to get some un-satisfying vegan cream cheese substitute. Needless to say,

neither were satisfied with the current solutions to the problems so many face. Instead of giving up or giving in, however, Ryan and Perumal came up with their own solution. As opposed to creating a fake mile substitute, as was the current subpar option, Ryan and Perumal used real milk in a way that didn’t hurt the cows in any way. This allowed them to receive all the benefits they wanted from being vegan while still enjoying all the delicious diary products they wanted.

They took this idea and ran with it, creating their business “Perfect Day”. This company sells sustainable diary products without lactose, hormones, or antibiotics. Essentially, they are making cleaner milk. However, they are not inherently business men, they are scientists. To overcome this challenge, they simply work on the best process to make the best and cleanliest milk, and partner with other companies to produce and sell the products. With the help of these partners, they are able to make and distribute ice cream, yogurt, cream cheese, and just about any other diary product you can think of. Additionally, they are very open to ideas from outside entrepreneurs. They want to know how they can best serve their customers, and will work to make sure that the customer can have what they want in a new way that reduces the negative consequences.

Ryan and Perumal are a great example of an inspiring young entrepreneur team. They worked hard, and created a sustainable business that helps vegans and non-vegans alike all over the world satisfy their diary cravings without a guilty conscious.

Daniela V. Fernandez and the SOA

Daniela V. Fernandez is a wonderful example of a social entrepreneur. At just 19 years old, Daniela founded the Sustainable Ocean Alliance. Fueled by her passion for the sea and making the world a healthier, safer place, she started an organization that strives to save the ocean and reduce greenhouse gasses by forty five percent in twelve years. To do this, Daniela is enlisting the help of young entrepreneurs across more than one hundred and fifty countries. This makes the Sustainable Ocean Alliance the world’s largest network of young ocean leaders.

I particularly like the work of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance due to it’s unique target market. Instead of targeting young kids or older adults, Daniela targeted the teenagers and young adults that fall right in the middle. In my experience, this group is often overlooked when it comes to climate change. Often times, this demographic is taught all about the environment and it’s importance

throughout elementary school, and then again once they graduate college. However, there is a key time when young entrepreneurs are in high school and college where there is a lack of information being given about the impact human’s are having on the world. Daniela discovered this problem in her area of passion, and got to work creating a very effective solution.

The Sustainable Ocean Alliance grew rapidly in it’s first five years due to the large amount of positive public response. Daniela was listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneur in 2019, as well as a whole laundry list of other awards and accomplishments.

Daniela’s success is a tribute to the change she is making in this world. Where other’s might back down from this large of a challenge, Daniela stood out from the crowd. She is not daunted by the size of the problem. In my eyes, this shows her true passion. She clearly wants to see change, and is more than willing to work for it.

Mikaila and the Bees

Mikaila Ulmer has been in the business world for eleven years… and she’s only fifteen. That’s right, Mikaila started her business at just four years old. It started when she was stung by

two bees. Naturally, she was very scared. However, in order to ease her mind, her parent’s taught her all they could about bees. She was then able to better understand their impact, and how important they are. Bees quickly became a passion for Mikaila.

Then, in a perfect example of ideas colliding together, her family received a cookbook. This cookbook contained a recipe for lemonade, with some tweaking, Mikaila stumbled across a delicious recipe: lemonade with honey. This unlikely combination has become the basis for her business, Me and the Bees Lemonade.

Me and the Bees Lemonade was originally entered in a children’s business competition in Austin, Texas. However, Texas was not big enough for Mikaila. She appeared on SharkTank, which boosted her business tremendously. Since then, Me and the Bees Lemonade has just continued t

o grow, and now offers beeswax infused lip balms and a wide variety of lemonade flavors.

In addition to providing us with refreshing lemonade, Me and the Bees Lemonade donates all profits to The Healthy Hive Foundation. The Healthy Hive Foundation is an organization started by Mikaila that is dedicated to conducting research and providing education about bees. Through this, their hope is to protect the bees. The Healthy Hive Foundation is a wonderful organization, and serves as a wonderful example of a social entrepreneurship.

Mikaila has embraced her entrepreneurial spirit. She is frequently delivering inspirational speaks, furthering the social impact of her business and The Healthy Hive Foundation.

Overall, Mikaila is a very inspiring young entrepreneur. She took something that she feared, and turned it around to something incredibly positive. Everyone, from large companies to grade school students, can learn something from Mikaila.

Ashley Qualls- Creating Websites that Help

Ashley Qualls was in middle school when MySpace first came out, and she loved using the sight. She spent hours looking through the sight, admiring the various page layouts. She then decided to start making her own layouts. She also decided to create her own website as a place to put all of her layouts, so others could use them too. This website quickly grew to include tutorials on how to use HTML as well. Ashley’s website was quickly a success. Within a month, it began earning a profit, strictly from adds. All of the page designs and tutorials were completely free to the users. Ashley found a problem that both she, and a lot of her classmates had, and found a way to fix it. Ashley Qualls is an excellent example of an entrepreneur who took on of her passions and turned it into her job at a very young age.

As Ashley grew older, so did her success. Her business grew with her, and at the age of seventeen she purchased a house to run her business out of. She also began to take on more and more projects. In 2016, she created another website: SickNotDead.com. This website provides support for those who are struggling with chronic conditions, but don’t look sick. Pulling from her own struggles, Ashley created this website to help others like her. She now is the editor-in-chief of Lucky Soul, a website that helps a multitude of charities. This website has a lot in common with SickNotDead, however it is broader in terms of the types of people it seeks to help.

Overall, Ashley’s story is one of turning passion and pain into an innovation. Despite her quick success, Ashley has stayed humble on every step of her journey, specifically in the more recent years. She took what her passions and turned them not only into a profitable idea, but a charitable one as well. Ashley encompasses a true and good entrepreneurial spirit.
