Benjamin Stern: Nohbo

In ninth grade, Benjamin Stern began developing a unique solution to reduce plastic waste out of his love for nature in his biology class. He started to create eco-friendly personal care products that consist of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and shaving cream. They are single-use packets that do not use any plastic packaging and dissolve in water. This invention led to the creation of his sustainable startup called Nohbo. An additional benefit is that Nohbo drops do not contain harsh chemicals, sulfates, or parabens. Benjamin pitched his product on Shark Tank, leading to Mark Cuban investing in his idea. Many companies have partnered with Nohbo after its success and innovative ideas. Benjamin is still the CEO of his company and works on new innovations to reduce plastic pollution.

Nohbo’s mission states, “At our core we’re a material science company innovating on ways to solve the plastic waste problem.”

Caleb Nelson: Romeo Rickshaws

The 14-year-old boy, Caleb Nelson, overheard his father contemplating ideas to draw more visitors downtown. His father is a real estate agent and hotel owner in Utah. Caleb came up with the idea of a pedicab service and pitched it to his father. After much convincing his father agreed and invested in two pedicabs for $10,000. Caleb gathered employees (his friends) and received training to learn how to properly drive and operate the vehicles. His business started by providing rides opening night for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Most rides were from the hotel room or venue to customers’ cars. Caleb’s clever business idea added another element to downtown Cedar City. His idea encouraged people to tour and enjoy the city. His business has been booming ever since and instead of charging a flat rate, tips are encouraged. Caleb’s business, Romeo Rickshaws, is now a flourishing tourist attraction.

Rachel Zietz: Gladiator Lacrosse

When Rachel Zietz was practicing for lacrosse, the net of the rebounder she was using broke. The net was ruined by a giant hole made from the ball. Rachel acted on this problem and created a more durable rebounder by expanding the thickness of the net and the steel bars. She did this at the age of just 13-years-old.

Rachel participated in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy Program. This gave her the idea to start a business which would provide quality lacrosse equipment at an affordable price. This is how Gladiator Lacrosse was invented. She built her ideas off her passion and love for the game of lacrosse. That is why each product is made thoughtfully. In addition, she is personally involved with the product concept and selection of raw materials to ensure the best quality possible. You can now purchase a variety of products from the Gladiator Lacrosse website. What sets her business apart from other competitors, is the strong materials used to make the equipment last. Her brand has flourished and are now proud partners with Amazon.

Her love for the game is what truly helped her business ideas to grow. She saw a problem and was determined enough to find a solution.

Nic Bianchi: Bianchi Candle Co.

Nic Bianchi started Bianchi Candle Co. when he was 12 years old. He received a candle making kit and used his love for math and science to create great smelling candles that are all-natural. Each candle is hand poured and made of all-natural soy wax that burns longer and cleaner. These features distinguish his company from all other candle companies. He did not stop there. He expanded the brand to sell diffusers, inspirational candles and luxury candles. There are multiple stores across the country, but they are all still handmade. Bianchi donates some of his earnings to various organizations like the American Cancer Society, Partnerships 4 Kids and the Angels Among Us Society.

Nic is a great example of finding a niche market using the things he loves.

Alina Morse: Zolli Candy

Sweet Success - DBusiness Magazine

Alina was only 7 years old when she had the idea for Zollipops. She was offered a lollipop when she went to run an errand with her father. Her father refused the offer and told Alina that candy would damage her teeth. This sparked the idea of inventing candy that not only tastes great, but is good for your teeth. She would watch YouTube videos on how to make candy and experiment in her kitchen. Her and her dad started making these lollipops that hit the shelves in 2014. This lollipop is vegan, all-natural, and sugar free. This turned into the making of her website Zolli Candy. She now sells her products in major retailers like Walmart, Whole Foods, and Kroger. Alina is a great example for what it looks like to see a problem and seek out a solution. No matter what age, inventions can be made!

Lily Born: The Kangaroo Cup

Lily's Grandpa with his Kangaroo Cup

Lily Born is a great example of someone who sees a problem and seeks out the solution. At 7 years old, she noticed her grandpa knocking over and spilling drinks due to Parkinson’s disease. This led to her grandma constantly cleaning up after him. This inspired her to create a product called Kangaroo Cups. This cup consists of three legs that prevents it from tipping over. She made a prototype for her grandpa with plastic mold and a year later made one for her dad using ceramic. Lily and her dad traveled across the world to refine the models and find a manufacturer to get this product on the market. They got financial support from crowdfunding platforms like Indiegogo and Kickstarter. She was listed as Business Insider’s top 11 year old in tech and Mochi’s “25 game changers under 25.” She has also made various headlines. Lily Born is now 16 years old and has sold tens of thousands of Kangaroo cups worldwide. Lily is not only an inspiration for her innovative idea, but for her determination despite being a timid young girl.
