Neptune Bottles

Neptune Bottles, a reusable water bottle company, was founded by 17 year old Ryan Trahan while in high school. Trahan, who also is on the Texas A&M track and field team started the company to help impact the massive plastic waste problems, and how it is negatively affecting our oceans. So, the foundation of his company is socially driven. A portion of proceeds from every water bottle sold goes to the Plastic Oceans foundation, which raises awareness for this problem, and also helps to clean up oceans around the world. His water bottles are also differentiated from a lot of the competition due to their exceptional overall quality. These bottles are BPA free, environmentally friendly, and are made of food grade stainless steel. Also, they are sweat resistant, and vacuum sealed, meaning they can keep liquid cold or hot for 24 hours.

However, the interesting part of this story comes from the fact that Trahan made national news regarding the NCAA. They made this young entrepreneur choose between owning his company, or participating in Division 1 athletics. They argued that he wasn’t allowed to use his notoriety or “fame” as an athlete to earn monetary gains. Many people found this extremely unjust, and ultimately Trahan ended up dropping out of college all together for his business. Ultimately, his persistence and dedication to his business should help him thrive in the future, and shows some of the essential qualities that successful entrepreneurs have.

Superjam – From Grandma’s recipe to 3 million a Year

At the age of 14, Fraser Doherty started using his grandmother’s jam recipes to make natural preserves for himself, and also to sell to the local farmers market. Fast forward to the age of 20 and his business, Superjam, is now making roughly 3 million dollars in revenue a year. It’s quite amazing to see that all of this success can come from perhaps one of the most antiquated process out there – ie. jam making. Perhaps the primary reason for Doherty’s success however is the differentiation which has product has from the multitudes of other preserves out on the market. Fraser only makes his jams from 100% fruit, something refreshing considering most competitors’ jams are composed of 50% sugar. So initially, consumers valued the taste, and health conscious side of Fraser’s product, yet his marketing skills took him from a mom and pop type business, to the young mogul that he is today.

In fact, Fraser Doherty has earned exactly 22 prestigious entrepreneurial awards, and at the ripe old age of 24 he is the resident entrepreneur at London Metropolitan University. Essentially, he gives lectures and helps teach other aspiring entrepreneurs some of the necessary steps to take in order to give yourself a chance to make a profit in the open market. Finally, he has released both a cookbook with all his jam recipes, and a book on business; both of which are bestsellers. Clearly, this young entrepreneur has found some model of attaining success, and he revitalized the ancient practice of jam making, showing the entrepreneurial spirit applies to both things created and not yet imagined.

Nannies by Noa

In 2012, 15 year old Noa Mintz started her own nanny agency, in hopes of providing quality care and babysitting services not only for her family, but for practically everyone living in Manhattan. Ironically enough, the young mogul’s business aspirations came about because of her own criticisms of the family babysitter. Noa’s mother essentially told her, “Well why don’t you find a better babysitter for the family.” Mintz accomplished that task, and passed with flying colors. After achieving such success in finding a caregiver, Noa thought she could find her friends better babysitters too. This evolution and blossoming of her business lead to a need to hire a full time manager so that Noa could focus on her high school studies.

This business venture is not only extremely practical (as most people have needed a babysitter at some point or another), but it also shows that sometimes innovation can be solving a common problem. Noa Mintz didn’t create some marvelous invention that is being marketed around the world; she simply saw a need, and met it. This forward approach will continue to create growth, and should lead to exponential success. Noa’s business is really good at what it does, and this superior quality is something that many experienced entrepreneurs can’t even achieve. Basically, Noa nailed the whole “nannying” concept.

Anshul Samar – Making Chemistry Fun

Most people dread learning chemistry. From positive and negative ions, to oxidization and other reactions, chemistry is a daunting field to master. However, 14 year old Anshul Samar has decided to change the reputation and stigma surrounding this subject. The interesting part of the whole matter is the fact that Samar is overhauling the way we learn through an interactive game, “Elementeo”. Elementeo is a card based game made for two players. Different aspects of chemistry such as reactions and electron exchange are implemented, and help teach the player about the basics.

This innovative design was created out of Samar’s desire to show that kids can have a successful business of their own, and at any age. Not only is Samar on the verge of receiving a $500,000 investment to mass produce his card game, but other chemists are viewing his creation as extremely influential.

The general premise of his Anshul Samar’s business is quite ingenious, but it is even more remarkable that he has done all of this at the age of 14. Especially, that he has grasped a concept such as chemistry so well that he is in the process of teaching people all over the globe, through his game, Elementeo. Here is a prime example of someone using both left and right brain to create something amazing that can have a significant impact on the way that knowledge is passed on.

Mr. Cory’s Cookies

Everyone loves cookies. A statement so simple, yet so universally true. Ten year old New Jersey native Cory Nieves decided to capitalize on the sweet tooth of Americans when he started his company, Mr. Cory’s Cookies. Corey decided to start baking and selling cookies in order to raise money to purchase a car for he and his mother, so they wouldn’t have to endure cold New Jersey winters by foot. With a noble cause in his mind, the young entrepreneur began to work.

At first, Cory new not the slightest bit of information regarding baking or cooking in general. However, with the help of some magazines and a few key Google searches, he was up and running. The area of expertise separating Mr. Cory’s cookies from other brands is the fact that he uses only all natural ingredients, never processed, and ingredients as directly sourced as possible. Aside from the fact that the cookies are of exceptional quality, Cory claims that he bakes his cookies with love, supposedly giving him a leg up on the competition.

Now how did a door to door “lemonade stand-eque” business rise to such meteoric proportions? Essentially, consumers not only loved the product, but also the kid behind those delicious cookies. Cory knew how to market himself. He made appearances on both Shark Tank, and even Ellen’s show. This publicity helped to build his brand immensely, and building a brand is crucial in gaining loyal customers.

Cory indeed has sold enough delicious cookies to get his mom that car they so desperately needed, but he is not done yet. Aside from wanting to continue to grow his current business, you can bet that he has other ideas brewing for future ventures. In fact, he even wants to have his own clothing line some day. The future is very bright for Cory Nieves, and very sweet as well.

Flash back to 2014 when a young Memphis born entrepreneur Moziah “Mo” Bridges took the world by storm, making an appearance on the hit program, Shark Tank. At the time of his pitch, Mo was only 12 years old. He came into the show with an amazing opportunity to share his passion of bow ties and fashion with the world. Mo could be described as a young man very style oriented, and he holds to a “look good feel good” type of mantra. His grandmother taught him how to craft bow ties at the age of 9, and from there he never looked back. He became enamored with the beauty and craftsmanship that goes into a piece of clothing, and people took notice. His business began to grow until that fateful moment when prominent Shark Tank star Daymond John decided to invest in him. After the airing of that show, Mo’s Bows began to grow exponentially.

Today Moziah Bridges is a 15 year old who just received a seven figure deal with the NBA, giving him rights to produce bow ties with the logos of every professional basketball team.
