Bright and colorful looks have made their way back into the day-to-day content of Instagram and beauty channels. This is all due to one eccentric and outspoken influencer, James Charles. Before his debut on Ellen, he was a young boy living in a small town creating makeup looks on his friends. He started posting his makeup looks on Instagram in 2016. He was soon named the first ever male CoverGirl.
After his appearance on Ellen, his brand blew up. His videos started appearing everywhere on YouTube and his “sisterhood” grew quickly. Last week his YouTube channel hit over 10 million subscribers along with his Instagram hitting 10.8 followers.
He is known for saying and tweeting inappropriate comments to other celebrities/influencers. He also has tweeted insensitive comments about current issues occurring around the world. Despite his “scandals” and twitter battles, he continues to grow in popularity. He has created a huge brand for himself with catchy phrases and his inability to hold his tongue.
He has collaborated with other popular influencers such as Jeffree Star, Tati Westbrook, and Nikkietutorials. He even collaborated with Kylie Jenner for a Halloween tutorial. In early November, James won the Beauty Influencer of 2018 at the People’s Choice Award proving his power in the industry. Last week, James Charles partnered with cosmetics brand Morphe to create the James Charles palette and brush set. The collection is fittingly called the Sister Collection. The collection sold out in less than 24 hours.
He has truly created an empire of a brand with his personality and talent. He has allowed people to “show their inner artist” in a big way. He is young and will only go up from here.
