Emma Teal Laukitis and Claire Neaton- Salmon Sisters

These two sisters grew up on the remote Aleutian Islands of Alaska where their family made a living by harvesting salmon. The girls were born and raised on this remote island in which they had to be homeschooled for part of the year because of the impact winter had on transportation between their home and the school on another island. They were raised to live of the land through the animals they raised and the plants they grew because they weren’t able to go the the store every week like you and I. These girls used everything they learned growing up to start there own business selling fish and and all kinds of different gear like boots, apparel, mugs, wallets, and way more.  One of there biggest sellers is their fresh salmon they catch, in which they ship the fresh salmon all over the world with two day shipping. making this some of the freshest salmon you will ever be able to eat. They  even sell a cookbook with all the the best recipes for cooking the salmon. This company isn’t all about making a profit either, they still stay very active in their community. They give a portion of their proceeds to the food bank of Alaska in the form of Salmon. Since beginning the “Give fish Project” in 2016 the sisters have given over 300,000 servings of wild salmon to hungry Alaskians.

Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze- 4Ocean

After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 2014 Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze took a surfing trip to Bali. When they were there they were appalled by the about of trash in the ocean. They saw local fisherman pushing their boats through piles of plastics. After seeing these fishermen struggle to make ends meet and also the disturbance of plastic Alex and Andrew decide to help these fishermen and remove the plastic. In 2017,  Andrew and Alex founded 4ocean, which started by hiring these local fishermen to collect plastic instead of fishing. 4ocean began to sell bracelets to help raise awareness and spark a conversation about plastic pollution. As of 10/3/2022, the 4ocean crew has removed over 20 million pounds of trash from the world’s oceans, rivers, and coastlines. To fund the plastic removal efforts, 4ocean sells bracelets. These bracelets are made from 95% recycled materials and have all different colors that represent different animals that live in the ocean like sharks, turtles, dolphins, or seahorses. 4ocean is on track to be able to remove over 1 million pounds of trash in 2022.

As a customer of 4ocean, it’s nice to see this company thrive. I have multiple bracelets from 4ocean and love seeing them give updates about the trash they have pulled out of the ocean. I even follow them on Instagram to see what going on in the company.

Corn Kid

Many of you have probably heard or seen the “corn kid” on TikTok. 7-year-old, Tarik, is a corn connoisseur and his TikTok has gone viral on TikTok in the past few weeks. Tarik didn’t stop by just going viral on TikTok, he is trying to make some money off of his fame. His video alone has gotten over 23 million views on TikTok and 3 million views on youtube. To make some money Tarik has started selling personal videos of him talking about corn. He has sold 21 of these videos already, charging anywhere from 150-500 dollars. The University of Nebraska was a customer of Tarik, in which they received a video of him saying “It’s cornhusker football, I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful thing. This Nebraska team has the juice! Have a corn-tactic season huskers.” Tarik is showing some young entrepreneurial traits by taking advantage of his fame and making some money off of it. It’ll be interesting to see if Tarik is able to continue his fame or if it will just be a one-time thing. I have attached the original youtube video that Tarik starred in, the sound of this video is now going viral on TikTok and youtube as well.

Daimiyan Menya- Honey Bee Butter

Daimiyan is 14 years old and lives in Tennessee. It is interesting to see how this 14-year-old combined her passions with an opportunity in the market while positively impacting the World. Daimiyan caught covid within the past couple of years, and like many people, she lost her taste and smell. She noticed that the one thing she could still taste was butter, and with Daimiyan loving to cook as much as she does she decided to make her butter. Daimiyan also expressed her love for nature, so she combined the butter idea with helping save bees. Now her final product is honey-based butter, in which she has forumulted many different flavors.

Daimiyan started her business small by selling her butter at a garage sale. When a customer buys her product they also receive a free bag of wildflower seeds to plant to help save the bees. With the profit Daimiyan has made already she has graciously given some of that profit to a local animal shelter. She also plans to make new flavors of honey butter for the upcoming fall/Halloween season. All this information can be found because Daimiyan made her local news after she began selling her honey butter.

Ryan Hickman- Ryan’s Recycling

Ryan Hickman didn’t wait long to become an entrepreneur. At the age of three, Ryan saw an issue with the amount of trash on our planet and the lack of people recycling. Ryan started by going door to door collecting his neighbor’s recycling for them and taking it to the recycling plant with his dad. In 2022, Ryan is able to have a much greater impact on the world. He travels the world hosting events for people to collect trash on the beaches. When Ryan was interviewed by NBC he said his organization has picked up over 160,000 pounds of trash all over the world.

Ryan didn’t stop by just doing the physical labor of picking up recycling. He continued his mission by starting an awareness t-shirt company in which all the profits go towards rescuing marine animals. He also started an education program for kids and adults to learn the importance of recycling and the effect trash can have on our environment.

I give credit to Ryan for being able to identify a problem, and then take action to make an impact on the World. If Ryan can make this big of an impact on the World at the age of three that leaves no excuse for anyone else.

Benjamin Stern- Nohbo

I am a big fan of Sharktank, but one that caught my eye while watching the show was Nohbo. Nohbo is a company that came on shark tank in 2016 and was started by Benjamin Stern. Nohbo is a company that packages shampoo, conditioner, and soap in single-use dissolvable packages. In starting Nohbo, Benjamin’s goal was to make an impact on waste produced by plastic bottles. His product eliminates the big shampoo, conditioner, and soap bottles thrown away in every household. After getting a deal with Mark Cuban on the tank it wasn’t smooth sailing for the company. Benjamin was faced with customer complaints about damaged goods and shipping delays, but this didn’t stop him. Benjamin went back to his chemist and they came up with a better way to package the items so they didn’t get damaged in shipping but still maintained their dissolvability. This is the one thing I admire most about Benjamin, Even though he was just 16 years old he didn’t let customer complaints stop him from growing his company. He was able to change his product for the better and take another step forward.

Mark Cuban spoke up about this company after being apart of the company and spoke of his high hopes for this company. Mark thinks that this could be a 100 million dollar business in the near future. So I’m excited to see how Benjamin and Mark expand this product and the places they go.
