Nick D’Aloisio

There’s nothing quite like the success of a young entrepreneurs. The success of Nick D’Aloisio is no exception. This 17 teen-year-old self-made millionaire started his career as an app developer at the ripe age of twelve. He saw a unique problem that called for action and used his childhood creativity to produce a useable and potentially valuable solution. Nick found that when reading, most authors were unnecessary wordy. He searched for a way to condense the text into a simpler and less time consuming version but turned up empty handed. Nick, who had been working on computers since he was six years old, decide to develop an app. This beyond brilliant teenager began developing his app, and by the time he was fourteen introduced Trimit; a useful and easy to use text summarizer. The app was a huge success and after only a few months in production he sold the application for 300,000 dollars. Instead of spending the cash, he re-invested the money into a new app. Nick spent the next two years creating a better, faster and more accurate version of Tirimit. He introduced his new app, Summly when he was seventeen. The app sold almost instantly. Yahoo saw the potential of this great idea and purchased the smartphone app for 30,000,000 dollars. Nicks was not able to succeed simply because of his obvious brilliance, he had to put in years of hard work to achieve it. After all, “Genius, that power which dazzles mortal eyes, Is oft but perseverance in disguise.” — Henry Austin

The Art of Selflessness

No two entrepreneurs are alike. They all have different goals, ideas and character traits. Each and everyone of them have different experience and lives. But when we look at the life and goals of Jack Kim, we find something that truly stands out in the midst of hundreds of great minds. In 2011 Kim created a web browser that differs from almost any business model I have ever heard of. BeneLab is a powerful and surprisingly clean web browser that gives 100% of its proceeds to charity. It’s that simple, it takes the money from ads posted on the site and gives all the money away to those who need it most. I feel as if I’ve read a hundred different story’s of successful entrepreneurs, this is the only one that shows hard work and time with no direct benefit for the creator. Kim has shattered my perspective of what it means to be successful in the entrepreneurial world.

“I can safely say that Benelab has been the biggest obsession I’ve ever had. I poured so much into it, and the experience poured so much into me; through it I found a genuine passion for social entrepreneurship, and realized that I want to make it my life mission to use technology, especially the Internet, and business innovation to help others.”

–            Jack Kim

Jack Kim is a game changer, a 16 year old entrepreneur that is doing his best to inspire a generation to start selfless companies. BeneLab  brought in over 5,000 dollars in its first 2 years and continues to grow. He built Benelab from his home computer after and its making a real difference. Kim’s story of BeneLab is one of the most inspiring stories of a companies model I have heard. Stories like Kim’s are what gives our generation the best chance of making a real difference in the world. Jack Kim is now working on a number of world changing ideas that I hope to see succeed. Kim built an entire company without any aspirations of making a dollar for himself. The one constant among all the chaos in the corporate business world is the search and pursuit of money. Kim shows us that it doesn’t have to be.
