Travis Scott

Jacques Berman Webster, most commonly known as Travis Scott was born on April 30, 1992. He grew up in South Park, Houston which was notorisoulsy known for its crime which had and impact on Webster. Seeing all the crazy people he was living by was what gave Webster the edge and drive to get out of there. Webster graduated high school at seventeen and then he was enrolled at the University of Texas San Antonio, but dropped out his sophomore year to pursue his music career.

As we know, the will to get out of his crime filled neighborhood was what drove Webster. Something unique that Webster had to go through was no financial stability. After he dropped out of college to pursue music, his parents cut him off financially because they did not support his decision. Therefore, he moved in with his friend, but his friend eventually abandoned him leaving him with no choice but to go back to Houston and live with his family. His parents eventually kicked him out, therefore he moved to L.A. where he lived with a friend and slept on his couch.

Webster started from nothing, but is now one of the most successful rappers in the game. His albums “Rodeo”, “Birds in The Trap Sing Mcknight”, and most recently released “Astroworld” have all been top hits and broke records for streaming within the current decade. Webster continues to innovate every year by making us fans new music to listen to.

What inspired me about Webster was his drive to succeed. From the early stages of his life, Webster’s goal was to make it in life and not have himself in a situation filled with crime. As we now can tell, he can provide everything for his parents who raised him. Webster’s hardships of moving around from city to city with everyone in his family doubting him inspires me. Webster had nothing. He had no money, no family support, and at some points nowhere to even live, but he never let his mind get off that vision. I believe that if every entrepreneur had as much drive as Webster did, they could succeed just like him.

21 Savage

Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph most commonly known as “21 Savage” was born on October 22, 1992. He was born in Plaistow, London. In the seventh grade Savage got into some legal trouble which eventually led to him dropping out of school his freshman year to pursue his music career. On his 21st birthday, Savage was shot at 6 times and his best friend Johnny was killed.

Something unique about Savage was that the death of his best friend was what sparked Savage’s career. The death drove Savage to create great music and in his debut album, his song “Bank Account” hit number two on the US Billboard 200. Savage’s music industry is interesting because he joined a collaborative studio album with other famous artists like Offset and Metro Boomin.

The album hit number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Savage has been innovating his whole career coming out with new music every year. His album I Am > I Was has been a top sit ever since it came out. His song “10 Freaky Girls ” has been one of his most popular songs as well.

Savage inspires me because of the hardships he has gone through to get to this point. To watch your best friend die is something that nobody should ever have to experience. The fact that he grew up with no father as well is something that drives me. Savage has taught me how to stay mentally tough rather than roll over when things get hard. If you have an idea as an entrepreneur and it doesn’t workout, that doesn’t mean give up. It actually means keep striving until you can figure it out.

Post Malone

Austin Richard Post also known as “Post Malone” was born on July 4th 1995. Post was born in Syracuse New York, but moved to Grapevine Texas when he was 9 years old. Post was introduced to various types of music including hip-hop, country, and rock by his father Rich Post.

Something that is very unique about Post is that back in 2010 he auditioned for the band “Crown the Empire,” but he was rejected because his guitar strings broke during the audition. Post’s initial interest for guitars was struck when he played the famous game “Guitar Hero.” People originally thought Post’s stage name was formed because of Karl Malone, but Post said he simply used his last name and a rap name generator.

Post was always driven to make great music. He was enrolled in college, but eventually dropped out and moved to San Fernando Valley with friends to create music. Post’s business model was very interesting because his first hit was “White Iverson” which received high praise from the famous Pittsburgh rappers Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa. Post has been innovating ever since this song dropped and has come out with top hit albums like “Stoney” and “Beer Bongs and Bentleys.”

Post has inspired me because he never gave up. He was rejected by a silly band, but little did they realize he was a massive talent. This could happen to any entrepreneur who has a vision. Post has taught me to look at the bigger picture even if things get tough. I have also learned to keep innovating just like Post did. Don’t just be a “one hit wonder” and keep striving for greatness.

A$AP Rocky

Rakim Athelaston Mayers (A$AP Rocky) was born on October 3, 1988 in Harlem, New York. Rocky’s father was from Barbados, but died while he was in jail in 2012. Rocky also had an older sister named Erika who died in 2016 from a drug overdose. Rocky started rapping at the age of 9 when he moved to Harrisburg Pennsylvania. While living in Harrisburg, Rocky learned how to rap from his older brother and also adopted his brother’s French braid hairstyle.

When Rocky was only 13 years old, his brother was killed in Harlem. Something unique about this situation was that Rocky claimed that the death of his brother drove him to take the rap game more seriously. Rocky’s career started in a very interesting way. In 2007, Rocky kicked his career off when he joined the A$AP mob. Rocky’s first single “Purple Swag” was a big hit and eventually became a street anthem in NYC.

Rocky’s single “Peso” was leaked online which eventually led to his stellar career. He created music videos for both “Peso” and “Purple Swag” which caught a lot of attention from record labels. He released the mixtape “Live. Love. A$AP” and signed a 2 year 3 million dollar deal with RCA records. Upon his deal, Rocky started a label “A$AP Worldwide” leading to a fantastic career.

Rocky demonstrates his entrepreneurial skills through his amazing talent and creativity of being able to rap. Rocky’s music is very good in a lot of people’s eyes and he is continuing to innovate by making more music for us consumers. Rocky inspires me because of the amount of family losses he took, but somehow managed to become a great entrepreneur. I have learned not to throw a pity party for myself if things get tough. Rocky had been through hell and back, but still managed to create great music and become a successful artist.

Kevin Gates

Kevin Jerome Gilyard better known as his stage name “Kevin Gates” was born on February 5th 1986. Gates attended Baton Rouge Community College when has 17 for a brief period of time. He is of Moroccan and Puerto Rican decent. Gates career started in 2007 when he signed a local label deal with Dead Game Records. This was where his career blossomed and eventually led to his major success in music.

Something very unique about Gates is how productive he was while in prison. Gates spent 31 months in prison between 2008 and 2011. During these 31 months, Gates actually earned a master’s degree in psychology through a prison program. He was released early for good behavior. Gates was eventually sent back to prison for parole violations, while in this 4 month period he wrote the mixtape “By Any Means” which eventually became one of his top albums.

Gates is driven by his family. He married his longtime girlfriend Dreka Haynes in 2015 and they have been practicing Muslim since then. They had two children Islah and Khaza. Gates is so driven by his family that his best album is actually named “Islah” after his daughter. Something interesting about Gates’ music is that his music has a purpose. Most rappers go out there and just talk about doing illegal things. Gates on the otherhand raps about his childhood and how he had to go through struggles and provide for his family.

Some traits that Gates demonstrated includes creativity and dedication. Gates is always making new music and even though he was put into prison many times, he still was dedicated to providing us a blessing in the music industry. Gates inspires me because he never gave up. Usually if someone goes to prison, they give up on their life but he kept striving to make great music and even got a master’s degree. Some principles that I have learned are to never give up on what you love and even though life gets tough, that doesn’t mean it has to end.

Wiz Khalifa

s

Cameron Jibril Thomaz also known as “Wiz Khalifa” was born on September 8th, 1987. Wiz Khalifa is my favortie music artist of all time. He was born in North Dakota, but finally ended up settling in Pittsburgh in 1996 where he attended Taylor Allderdice High School. Soon after moving to Pittsburgh, Khalifa started to make his own lyrics and write his own songs before he was even a teenager.

Something unique about Khalifa is his name. The name “Khalifa” comes from an Arabic word that means “successor” and wisdom. The name come from being called “young Wiz” because he was good at everything he did. Something interesting about Khalifa was that at the age of 15, Khalifa was regularly recording his music in a studio called I.D. Labs. The studio was so impressed with his music that they actually let him record it for free. Khalifa got his first chance with Rostrum Records. In 2004, Rostrum Records president Benjy Grinber met Khalifa when he was 16 and announced him as “an artist to watch” in Rolling Stone Magazine.

Some etnrepreneurial traits that Khalifa demonstrated was signing with Warner Bros. in 2007. Khalifa used the company to get his name out there and preform some of his first songs like “say yeah.” Khalifa eventually made the business decision to leave Warner Bros., but claimed that he was glad Warner Bros taught him how to grow with his career and lead him to be able to make his own next moves. Khalifa is innovating everyday by making new music. His most recent album “Rolling Papers 2” was released on July 13, 2018 and was a big hit. Most fans enjoyed the album and when he went on tour to preform the album.

Khalifa inspires me because he started his industry at such a young age. He was making music at age 9 which is very impressive to me. If Khalifa could start making music at the age of 9, then I should be able to be an entrepreneur at age 19. Some principles that I have learned from Khalifa is to stick to what you believe in. Khalifa had many doubters at first (which you would expect), but he kept at it with the music industry and now he is one of the most famous and (my favorite) artist out there. Another principle that Khalifa taught me was to keep an open mind. When Khalifa had trouble writing music, instead of getting frustrated he would relax and just let the lyrics come to him. As an entrepreneur, you can’t overthink or you will just end up costing yourself.
