BlingSting

Andi Atteberry, is the founder of Blingsting! Blingsting is a pepper spray container with a feminine makeover. The idea started in her home with her family! Andi’s father often brought home pepper spray for her family members. Personal safety was emphasized, and taking precautions was encouraged.

Blingsting is different because it has a feminine flare. It is a can of pepper spray with a rhinestone case and a heart-shaped nozzle. It is special for girls, and encourages personal safety. Blingsting is being sold across the country. They are selling it in hardware and hunting stores! Some high end stores in Los Angeles have also picked up the product. The business is growing!

I am impressed by Blingsting. The Blingsting team was able to take something very masculine and make it attractive to women. Personal safety precautions are never bad, and you might as well look cute while protecting yourself!

ManCan

Man Can, started by 14 year old, Hart Main, is a small business focused on men being men. While watching his sister sell girly scented candles for a school fundraiser, Hart Main had an idea! He decided that there was a lack of manly scented candles on the market.

Main put up one hundred dollars toward the business, and his parents put up 200 dollars toward the business. As a group, they developed scents such as Campfire, Bacon, Sawdust, Fresh Cut Grass, and Grandpa’s Pipe. Currently ManCans are sold in 60 stores across the country. About 9,000 candles have been sold!

I admire Hart because of his age and ability to see a new branch for a product! I would look for his candles! His innovation and mindset for business will take him far.

Birchbox

Two Harvard graduates, Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp, started a business called Birchbox. Their idea was to get women to subscribe monthly to boxes of beauty products that get mailed directly to their homes. These boxes contain four or five sample size products for the women to try!

This business offers a unique experience and service for consumers. People who subscribe get to try new products and and to replenish products that they already love. This business also allows founders to connect new consumers with a variety of brands and products.

Birchbox is a very popular business.  Few women want to purchase a lot of products in search for their next favorite brand. Sifting through products and trying new products can be expensive and time consuming. Birchbox provides women with the opportunity to try a variety of products that are trusted and popular already.

To get their business off the ground, Birchbox founders emailed beauty product manufacturers for sample size products to send to people during a beta test. While this was a difficult task, the hard work paid off! The company has grown greatly, there are currently 500 brand partners, 400,000 paid subscribers, and about 150 people working for Birchbox.

This is not a random experiment for beauty products. Customers put in their preferences or needs- dry skin, curly hair, etc. These preferences are taken into account and then the samples that are shipped are particular to their needs. Also, Birchbox subscribers can shop at the website! It really is a full service business.

J.Sider and BandPage

J. Sider is the founder and creator of BandPage. In his own pursuit of getting his name out there in the music scene, he discovered that there was a much more effective and creative way to connect bands with their fans. Instead of using multiple online platforms, ads, and word of mouth, he created an online platform just for bands and musicians.

This company is based in San Fransisco. More than 500,000 bands and musicians currently use BandPage as their platform. J. Sider created his business on a freemium model of revenue. The musicians can purchase different tools and extras for their page on the site, and they sell an experience to fans. It helps both musicians and fans get unique access to information and a musical experience. This business is not going unnoticed by large name musicians. Musicians such as Rihanna, 50 Cent, and Arcade Fire currently use BandPage!

BandPage used another online platform, Facebook, to start up the business. Bands were able to create pages, release updates, and frequently update their information. The success was fast, and many bands decided to use BandPage. Two rounds of  raising money were conducted, and between the two rounds, over 18 million dollars were invested in BandPage. Unfortunately, the business took a hit when Facebook changed its layout. Pages and timelines were no longer used, so musicians who used BandPage were unable to set their original pages as their default page. This set back did not stop BandPage. They ventured out past what Facebook could offer, and created their own website. Their success continues, and both fans and musicians benefit.

Making Bank….Eventually

Payroll is tricky. It is also an essential component for any small or large business. Without payroll, no one gets a check. Without a check, employees don’t make money. Without money, there is no business. Millennial Entrepreneur, Tomer London is a co-founder of a company called ZenPayroll. The title describes it all. He obtained degrees from Haifa’s Technion Institute and from Stanford’s graduate engineering program . As a younger boy, he created software to help with communication issues for new users to the English language, and an inventory system for his father’s clothing store. Innovation, creativity, and productivity are nothing new for this young entrepreneur. His experience with developing other software and his sharp intelligence make him an entreprenurial force to be reckoned with.

Technology

ZenPayroll is all about ease of use and efficiency. It uses a simple template that can be downloaded in mere minutes. The specifics of the program can be conformed and designed specifically for different needs of small businesses. It takes a daunting task and condenses everything in a ready to use program. ZenPayroll stands a chance to really switch up the market because other companies have not updated or streamlined their programs in a while. People are used to what they have, so there isn’t much incentive to make innovative technology. ZenPayroll sees it differently. Small businesses need a payroll system that fits their every need. Tomer London recognized this, and really stands a chance to make a difference.

Why ZenPayroll?

The question is….what makes this company different from already established and frequently used payroll programs? Cost. Affordability. Big Investors. Motivated founder. ZenPayroll is not currently making money because the program is not out in the market yet. But, it is estimated that it will cost around twenty five dollars a month to use this program. This is a marked difference between the thousands of dollars that other companies charge per month of services that are given. Also, there are big name investors backing ZenPayroll. For example, Google Ventures, Dropbox, and a co-founder of Youtube. Tomer London currently has 6.1 million dollars of invested money to support his cause!

Tomer London

He understands his business, and the market he is entering. With innovative technology and a new business plan for an already established need, he is ready to take the payroll market by storm. Entrepreneurs, both young and experienced, can now worry less about how much time payroll will take out of their busy schedule. They can focus on looking for rich opportunities, getting creative, and starting their businesses. Tomer knows what he is doing, and he is ready to work.
