Wise Pocket

Wise Pocket was started by young entrepreneur, Sofi Overton. She came up with this idea when she saw her older sister put her phone in her boot because the leggings she was wearing didn’t have any pockets. Sofi decided to do the same. She explained how uncomfortable this was and wished she had a better was to keep her phone safe while also being an active kid. So she decided to make a pair of socks that have a pocket big enough to hold a phone on them. She had also noticed that there was a surprisingly large number of kids in her area that were considered homeless. So along with this great idea, she decided to donate one pair of socks to. a kid in need with every pair that was sold. Sofi is helping to solve two problems at once with Wise Pocket. She is solving the problem hat she had as an active kid that doesn’t have any where to put their phone, and is helping to solve the issue of homelessness in her area. At just 11 years old, she is doing great things!

Mr. Cory’s Cookies

Cory Nieves is a young entrepreneur who’s business aims to make the world better for everyone he knows through treats! Adelle Archer: Eterneva

Through researching young entrepreneurs, I came across Adelle Archers. Archers is the CEO and co-founder of Eterneva. This start up company helps honor the lives of loved ones by turning their cremated ashes into diamonds. On top of being a CEO and co-founder at the age of twenty three, Archers has been featured on Shark Tank, was named the Consumer Startup of the Year in 2019, and was featured on Forbes coveted ’30 Under ’30 list. Archers also earned her MBA in Entrepreneurship from Acton School on Business. She was the valedictorian of her class, graduating at age twenty three. Archers idea for this product came to her when she lost her close friend to cancer. After their passing, she realized that there are not a lot of good options for memorials when you lose a loved one. That typical urns, caskets and funeral homes “fell uninspiring and morose.” She also came to the realization that ashes don’t last long and are often thrown out after a generation or two. Her company allows for loved ones ashes to be passed down from generation to generation and celebrate and remember their lives. The market for this business is very large and growing as 50% of the United States chooses cremation. Eterneva’s goal is to change the way that thinks about grieving and to create more lines of communication in times of loss. Eterneva has provided its customers with a to feel close to their loved ones that they other wise would not have.

Jessica Atkins- Stylebook

While researching young entrepreneurs, I came across Jessica Atkins and her business Stylebook. Stylebook is an application that helps users manage their wardrobe. Atkins states that this business started as a hobby. Once Apple opened the App Store to individual developers, Atkins and her the boyfriend, now husband decided to create the app, not expecting it to turn into the business it is today. Atkins states that ” if you want to start you own technology business, you don’t have to take the traditional startup route.” This point from Atkins is encouraging to hear as an entrepreneurship student.

Brown Girl Stationery

Brown Girl Stationery was founded by Kamaria Warren (13) and her mother. The two started this business after going shopping for backpacks, school supplies, and t-shirts, but finding none that represented black or brown girls. The inspiration behind BGS was “to develop a brand that black and brown girls could identify with.” Kamarias hope for her brand is that it inspires anyone that comes in contact with it.

Unstoppable Protective Gear

After looking through some of the success stories on the Young Entrepreneurs Academy website, I came across a 14 year old girl who started the company Unstoppable. Unstoppable was started by Taylor Ryan,  a 14 year old lacrosse player. The inspiration for this product came from Taylors personal experience on the lacrosse field. On her website she states ” I was getting tired of being slowed down by painful hits to the chest while playing lacrosse.” Before her product, there was not a protective cup sold for women to wear while playing contact sports.

Taylors product is essential to protecting the physical heath of female athletes. As she states in her website, impact to beast tissue can lead to non-cancerous lumps to form and appear as tumors. These lumps then lead to the formation of firm scar tissue. Taylor provides all of this information as to why her product is needed in women’s sports on her website.

In high school I played lacrosse, a product like this would have been incredible on the field. Playing contact sports with little protection was always a concern, especially when mens lacrosse has much higher standards for saftey. Taylor is completely innovating the realm of women’s sports with her product.  She is raising the bar for women’s sports protective gear.
