Daniel Ek – Spotify

Daniel Ek is the founder of Spotify. He came up with the music streaming service idea at only 19 years old and by 2017 he became the most powerful person in the music industry. A simple idea from such a young entrepreneur revolutionized the way we listen to music, proving that age is not a factor in creativity. Ek was able to see potential in streaming music before it was popularized and his revolutionary ideas pushed the music industry into a new era amidst brilliant minds like Steve Jobs.

Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy – Snapchat

Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy were students at Stanford University. Spiegel thought of the idea for a social media platform that stood out from the competition. Spiegel saw potential in the unique app where one’s messages disappear after sending and recruited Murphy to help him make this idea a reality. Now at only 28 years old, Spiegel is said to have a net worth of approximately 3 billion dollars. The duo took inspiration from existing platforms, but from that, they were able to make something much different than any other social media site and it proved to be wildly profitable.

Alexander Levin – ImageShack Co-Founder

At only 19 years old, young entrepreneur Alexander Levin became the co-founder of a web-based service called ImageShack. The service allows its users, individuals and businesses, to store their photos in one secure cloud location.  Individuals can share photos with one another and businesses to directly transfer photos to their website. Levin did not know that he would be at the helm of a 50 million dollar company in his twenties.

The Ocean Cleanup

At only 20 years old, a young entrepreneur and environmental activist Boyan Slat founded The Ocean Cleanup. At the age of 14, he saw the problem of more and more trash accumulating in the oceans and researched all throughout highschool. In 2014, with the help of crowdfunding, he was able to set his plan into motion. They use the natural circulation of the ocean to their advantage and use what they describe as a “passive system” to collect trash, using currents to sweep up garbage. They began rolling out some systems last year and plan to begin their full-scale operation by sometime in 2020. He left his aerospace college studies and decided to pursue and tackle a problem that affects us all, in one way or another. Boyan is a great example of someone who saw pain, but unlike almost everyone who also recognizes this pain, he formulated a plan to combat this and make the world a better place.

Scott’s Cheap Flights

The service Scott’s Cheap Flights was created by Scott Keyes in 2013. The humble beginnings of this service started as Scott had found an incredibly cheap international flight online. He did not plan to buy the ticket but he didn’t want the incredible deal he found to go unused either, so he shared the details with collogues and friends, and pretty soon he built up an email list with amazing flight deals, marking the beginning of Scott’s Cheap Flights. From here, Scott built a business out of a seemingly random occurrence once he saw the potential market for a business of this caliber. Scott’s team has members all across the globe, with employees in various countries trying to find the best deals for their premium members. The real magic of the service is that they have generated millions in profit since the inception of the company and have only 500$ in marketing!

Scott was able to take something completely random and look for ways to turn a profit on it. He capitalized on a specific area of a market in a way that set his company apart from the crowd. What makes his service special is the sheer simplicity of it; all you need to do is select the airports you depart from, put in your email and it’s as simple as that. For a fee, you can upgrade to receive knowledge even more exclusive deals with better fares. Scott Keyes is a prime example of what an entrepreneur should be: one who takes an idea a sees how it can be used to solve a problem.
