An Easier Way to View Sports Stats

Vincente Fernandez, a 24 year old entrepreneur, knew that sports are a big deal in the United States.  He knew that many people spend hours researching their favorite teams, players, and statistics about them.  Fernandez realized that there was an easier way to keep up with a favorite sports team, and realized that there was a gap in the market for this particular type of social media.

With the help of his mother, Frenandez created an easy to use app/website called Sportsmanias.  Not only does Sportsmanias give you information about your favorite players and teams, but it also shows tweets, team standings, and popular rumors on a Twitter-like feed.  Users of Sportsmanias can also participate in live tweeting during big games.  Fernandez has the entrepreneurial mindset, telling one source, “We are constantly rethinking our product, our competition, and trying to innovate.  This leads to an evolving digital platform that stays ahead of the curve.”  Since the time of the apps’ launch in 2012, Sportsmanias has received $4.5 million in funding alone so far.  Fernandez has made our way of viewing sports more efficient.

Hello Alfred

https://vimeo.com/145559444

Watering plants, dry cleaning, shoe repair, furniture assembly, stocking the fridge, dog care, prescriptions, gluten-free snacks, home cleaning, dishes, gift shopping and returns.

These and many more are some of the weekly tasks nearly every individual living on his or her own is responsible for. These things take time. Time that for those who have families and busy work schedules wish they had free to spend with their kids or friends to relax or go to the gym or to get more pressing things done.

29 year old Marcela Sapone and her co-founder Jessica Beck, Harvard Business School grads, realized this when they first hired someone to come to their apartment weekly to take care of those mundane tasks that take up so much time. Then they turned it into a business called Hello Alfred.

Hello Alfred is an app that matches you with a carefully vetted personal butler who visits your home each week to handle the tasks you don’t want to do for just $32 a week (or $58 to visit 2x a week).

Testimonials:

A.J. & Christina C. are Legal Professionals

“There is a sense of peace and calm when you walk into your home and everything is put away. Having your groceries already in the fridge is incredible. No other service does it this way.”

Scholarships Made Easy

As a college student, I know how expensive college is. I also know how hard it is to find scholarships that fit my needs. Christopher Gray saw this problem too as he grew up in a single parent household and had little to no means to go to college.

When Chris was in high school, he sifted through thousands of scholarships, and with a lot of hard work, he won $1.3 million in scholarships. As his own journey was very hard, Chris wanted to make it easier for other students. So Chris founded Scholly. Scholly is an app that helps high school seniors, current undergraduate students, or graduate students find scholarship money. It uses a patented scholarship-matching platform that gives you a targeted list that actually meets your needs and qualifications.

Scholly believes that everyone should be able to afford access to a quality education, regardless of who they are, where they’re from, or what they have. It is only $2.99, so it is cheap and accessible.

After Scholly was featured on Shark Tank, it became the #1 overall app in both the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store for over 3 weeks. In addition, the app has won numerous awards and Chris Gray has also won awards for his company.

Through all this success, Scholly is still dedicated to connecting students to over $50 million in scholarships so they can go to the colleges of their dreams. The company continually tries to improve and strengthen their company so they can go on to help more students reach their full potential.

Evan Spiegel and Snapchat

Evan Spiegel, born on June 4, 1990, is the co-founder of Snapchat, and is among the wealthiest of young men in the United States. Snapchat was created in September of 2011, and is a mobile picture and video chat messaging application. Many users enjoy the app because it allows people to communicate and send pictures and videos to one another without filling up the storage of people’s devices, as the app deletes them automatically. The idea of Snapchat wasn’t anything new, but the execution was something that other companies had never explored before.

As stated before, Evan Spiegel has become one of the youngest billionaires in the United States, achieving a net worth of over two billion U.S. dollars. The reason Mr. Spiegel stood out to me is because of my belief that it only takes one good idea to become successful. The idea of Snapchat that Evan helped create wasn’t something incredibly ground-breaking, in fact, it was simply an augmentation of already existing messaging applications. It became successful because it found the issue of messaged pictures and videos taking up too much space, and fixed it with a simple to use application. This single idea not only changed the way people communicate with one another, but also allowed Mr. Spiegel to be able to comfortably retire on the massive success he helped create.

The Hype Machine

Music is one of the centerpieces of pop-culture today.  It’s also a huge part of each of our daily lives.  And with our current technology we can music downloaded to our devices with the press of button.  But how do we discover music?  How can we share our discoveries and favorite songs with other music lovers.  Leave that to the Hype Machine.  In 2005, Anthony Volodkin created Hype Machine.  A music website and community (now with an app), that allows users to post blogs, share music, discuss music, and buy songs and even concert tickets.

Anthony’s vision for Hype Machine was to create a community that brought all music lovers and their thoughts and opinions together.  For 2005 this was revolutionary, as many music and artist “reviews” were only featured in select magazines or on radio stations.  Anthony set out to make a social platform for music to fix this problem in his eyes , and Hype Machine was a success.

Hype Machine is based in New York City and along with it’s website, it uses Facebook and Twitter as its other platforms.  Hype Machine has steadily grown since 2005.  Hype machine has gained revenue through ads, linking songs the music retailers, and by partnering with other platforms such as Soundcloud.  Anthony Volodkin created the Facebook of the music industry and has bridged the gap between customer, artist, and producer relations.  Hype Machine has all of the music hype!

Daniel Fine

With many entrepreneurs arising it is getting harder to differentiate. Many of them seem to be pushing the technology side of things with social media and new apps. Some however want to take a different approach. Daniel Fine is a millennial entrepreneur who was named one of the World’s Top Five Entrepreneurs, and one of TIME Magazine’s Top 25 International Leaders of Tomorrow. This man has also done amazing things in the medical realm. He has also won two volunteer-service awards from George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

His little brother was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and this influenced him to help all who are in need who have type 1 diabetes.  This led him to create an app that is to launch soon. The app is called Dosed. This app tracks your insulin dosage, and is all done very easily. The app has a “6th Grade Proficiency.”

He also brought Glass-U to the world. This is a folding sunglasses company that is licensed to hundreds of universities and to almost every fraternity and sorority in the United States.

Daniel Fine has brought some cool and helpful stuff to this world and will continue to do so.

A New Generation of Coders

Being able to code is becoming very important. There are a lot of job opportunities, and a lot of fun to be had with coding. Adam Lipecz takes this to another level.  Since a very young age, Adam was obsessed with innovation. He would create and design things that he showed around the world, but perhaps his best invention happened when he was teaching Mechatronics at a university.

Adam had come up with an idea for a toy for children that involved play, and coding. The idea was to take a robot toy and make it move by an app. In this app to make it move you are coding. This teaches children valuable problem solving skills and also coding lessons, all while having fun.

Since this has been created it will be surprising to see how Adam has impacted many of today’s children.

Zag App

A young entrepreneur from Kenya had an early life full of hardship to get to where he is today. Mubarak Muyika was an orphan at the age of 10. He was very smart even from a young age and was offered a scholarship to Harvard which he turned down. At the young age of 16 he founded Hypecentury Technologies which is a web hosting company. Later he created a cloud enterprise software called Zagace. This assists companies in the basic managing of inventory, payroll, stock, etc. Then creating the app version called Zag apps to make it easier for the heads of the companies to access the information.

Chalk One Up

The issue of uniformity and compatible software has always been of relevance in education and in business alike. William Zhou, the creator of Chalk, invented an Office for teachers. It’s a suite of productivity apps for K-12 educators. Used in over 20,000 schools worldwide, Chalk.com solves the problems of lesson planning, assessment, and collaboration and eases teachers’ pain by facilitating personalized education and driving student success.

William Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Chalk.com, observes, “I had always thought that teaching is an easy job. I thought teachers taught from a textbook and got 3 months off in a year. It wasn’t until I visited my own high school teachers that I realized it’s not the case. They were struggling with an overwhelming amount of work—dealing with lesson planning, assessment, and attendance, in addition to fending off angry parents and bureaucratic administration. I told them I couldn’t help them with the latter two but I could help ease their daily tasks. That’s when I started Chalk.com.” Chalk.com is used in over 20,000 schools and has over 100,000 teachers and continues to rapidly expand throughout schools and administrations throughout the world.

At the young age of 23, William is just beginning his entrepreneurial career  and has already made it into the Forbes list of
30 under 30. His example of immigrant entrepreneurship is inspiring others from his homeland of China to journey to the United States in search of a better life, and a venue for their ideas and dreams. He hopes that one day his motherland will become just as friendly to new companies and ideas as the United States is.
