Daymond John

“Don’t focus on you, focus on what you can give others”. Have you ever heard that quote? That was said by Daymond John, a powerful entrepreneurial mind who’s story has inspired many people to rise up from nothing and find success in their own lives. Born in Queens NY in February 23, 1969, Daymond didn’t have much growing up. He always had a mind for business though, and started working at the age of 10 by selling pencils and $2 flyers in the streets. When he was in high school, he worked in a program that allowed him to work full-time and be in school simultaneously.

He started out like everyone else, working a standard job at Red Lobster after graduating in 1986, but things started to change once his mother taught him how to sew. After selling hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise at shopping malls in Queens, Daymond and some friends started a clothing brand called For Us, By Us, otherwise known as FuBu.

Daymond got married and continued to expand his business, partnering with Samsung fashion and grossing over $200 million in sales. He then gave back to the people by establishing the Fubu Foundation that donates $1 million annually to support local urban communities. FuBu became the authorized clothing of the GlobeTrotters basketball team, and things only went up from there.

As his business continued to thrive, Daymond was eventually invited to join the ABC show SharkTank in 2009. For anyone who watches SharkTank,  Daymond John is probably best known as being arguably the coolest shark on the show.

There can be a lot learned from Daymond John. He has an inspiring story that serves as an example for many entrepreneurs to come, and as he once said himself, “Entrepreneurship brings us hope”.

Erik Finman

What caught my attention about Erik Finman was that his career all started with a deal he made with his parents. He ended up dropping out of high school and the deal that came of it was that if he could turn a $1,000 into $1 million, he wouldn’t have to go to school or college. That is some deal. If I made a deal like that with my parents, I would think they were joking. He started with investing in a haul of crypto currency at the price of $12 in 2011. Not only did he invest in bitcoin but other digital currencies as well like Ether. At the age of 15 he started his own business from his room. The business was known as Botangle. He was able to hire employees, programmers, contractors, and freelancers. In his business he made it possible for people to type in any subject matter they want to learn and be able to find someone that could teach the subject matter over video chat. When he reached the age of 18 his Crypto portfolio now had the value of over $1 million. He is known as the youngest bitcoin millionaire. The first thing he did with this money was travel the world. I mean who wouldn’t! He is focusing on a startup which uses cryptocurrencies and is intended to help in the development of a satellite for NASA. As you can tell, Erik has already done a lot for his age and continues to do more. He managed to do this all without a degree. This shows that getting a degree isn’t for everyone and he proves that.

Mikey’s Snacks: The Success Story of s Young Entrepreneur

Michael Wren (AKA Mikey), was a young man who was very entrepreneurially minded. Ever since he was young he’s had ideas on ways he could be making money to help others. When Mikey was the young age of eight years old, he became the Co-founder and CEO of Mikey’s Munchies. Mikey’s Munchies is a vending machine company with lots of machines around the local area. These machines come fitted with the basic snacks you might be craving when you are hungry. Mikey’s vending machine was the start of a successful future.

Mikey now age 13, likes to help out his local community. Mikey likes volunteering to raise money for kids who may not be able to afford toys. Mikey is also the author of two children’s books. These books can help kids open their eyes to the world of business at a young age. The first book titled “Mikey learns about business”, covers ideas that might help a child start a business. These ideas include things like creating a business plan, basic marketing strategies, and simple networking skills that can be easily learned and applied. His second book titled “Biz is a Whiz” is targeted at a younger audience.

Needless to say, Mikey has a bright future ahead of him and is a prime example of a successful young entrepreneur.

Andrew Mason: Groupon

Andrew Mason launched Groupon in November of 2008.  Groupon is a global e-commerce marketplace that connects subscribers with local merchants by offering activities, travel, goods, and services.  Mason’s idea to create Groupon came from his belief that there has to be some way to leverage a large number of people’s collective bargaining power to accomplish a goal.  Mason created what would later become Groupon with a $1 million dollar loan he got from his boss Eric Lefkofsky after Mason shared his business idea with him.  It didn’t take long for Groupon to gain popularity and become, with it only taking a year for Groupon to go from a dozen staff members to over 300 hundred.  Also, it only took 16 months for Groupon to become the fastest company in history to reach a company value of 1 billion.  Sadly, it seems like the company made some mistakes and had to pay out around 940 million to shareholders and investors, losing the company around 86% of its total value.  This payout combined with Mason’s way of managing the company caused him to be dismissed as company CEO in 2013.

Even though he was fired from his own business over its sudden financial collapse, I still think Andrew Mason is an exemplary entrepreneur because he decided to continue to found more companies instead of giving up.

Ornament Anchors

One day, after one particularly special Christmas ornament fell off their tree and broke, the Naqvi brothers began to consider how to better hand their ornaments. After all, the flimsy, silly hooks weren’t really cutting it! And thus, the Ornament Anchor was born.

Originally invented for his school’s invention convention, 10 year old Ayaan Naqvi created the idea for Ornament Anchor when he was in 4th grade. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, Ayaan knew he’d found something special when he was flooded with adult’s interest in purchasing his Ornament Anchors. Ayaan went on to win first place in his classroom and now, with the help of his older brother, Mickey, 15, and Mom, Amanda, he’s bringing Ornament Anchor into the hands of consumers everywhere.

Not only does Ayaan posses a strong entrepreneurial spirit, but he also cares and loves animals. In honor of his dog, Zara, a rescue from a shelter, a potion of the Ornament Anchor proceeds go directly to animal shelters. In his own words, his goal is “to help as many animals in need as [he] can” and hopefully, eventually, branch out to help other endangered species. This past year, Ornament Anchor was able to donate $20,000 dollars to shelters and animals in need.

From a small photography business owner to the founder of the largest locally themed retailer in Western New York, Nathan Mroz has become quite the successful entrepreneur and was recently awarded the “2022 Buffalo District Young Entrepreneur of the Year U.S. Small Business Administration” award.

This 28 year-old had humble beginnings. He had previously took advantage of the new trend of the web by selling web services to local businesses which is where he got the connection with MSI.
