25 year old Woman turns Fun Candle Side-Hustle into £10m Business.

Think you are too busy to start a side-hustle? It is not worth it right? It could be rewarding but it will never pay off may be the answer to that. What if I told you the side0hustler could turn into a £10million business. Oh the sticker shock may not be in pounds, so how about 13,115,500.00 in US Dollars! All this from a side-hustle that started in a family kitchen 2 years ago.

Hannah Chapman, 25, worked a job dealing with social media two years ago, started melting wax at the age of 23 and it just took off. She started advertising on Instagram her candles and before she knew it she quit her day job to focus solely on making these candles. Chapman credits social media for her success, as without it she would not have the customer base she has today. She says, “That’s the beauty of social media – there are ways of leveraging it that don’t necessarily require money and I think that’s what makes it so exciting for budding companies and young entrepreneurs, it really levels the playing field.”

On top of all that, she is able to employ her dad as a worker in her supply chain. The business itself does not just rely on candle sales, also having wax melts, bath bombs, room sprays and other handmade items. ManCans! Manly scented candles

Another young entrepreneur out of Ohio is Hart Main. Hart Main is a 13-year old that came up with the idea of manly scented candles. “Why don’t people make candles with scents that everyone likes?” Hart Main asked, while smelling the overly perfumed candles his sister was selling for a school fundraiser, he thought about guys who did not want their bedrooms to smell like, lavender soap. Although his sister did not expect him to fully pursue the manly scented candles idea himself, he did, and the idea has turned into a nationwide success. But before this success, before the company started, Harts’ wheels began turning, and the entrepreneur in him began to come out. He saw the opportunity right under his nose, the young entrepreneur combined his passion for helping his community with his interest in making a different sect of candle by donating to local soup kitchens and using the empty cans to hold his extraordinary scents. Main put in an initial investment of $100, his parents put in $200, and they all worked together to develop the candles as a group. Hart and his family work together to craft these handmade soy-wax-blend candles that possess the kinds of familiar smells from around the house that no man (or woman) would turn their nose up at. Hart’s current candles includes scents like dirt, fresh cut grass, sawdust, campfire, pizza, and coffee, bacon, Grandpa’s Pipe, and more. Each comes individually packed in a gift box. Today, ManCans candles are in over 60 stores across the country and have sold about 9,000 units. Main looks forward to improving his business, as well as moving into other entrepreneurial ventures, “I like the fact that I have control over things and can make decisions and see what’s actually happening,” he says.

Bianchi Candle Co.

Nic Bianchi started Bianchi Candle Co. when he was just twelve years old. Nic loves science, math, and candles, so his interests turned into a business where he hand-poured homemade candle mixtures in small batches. This eventually grew into a company that he still runs at sixteen years old.

Bianchi candle batches consist of high quality fragrances and all-natural soy wax, making these candles different from many other candle companies. His competitors were behind in the game since they had not started off the basis of completely natural products right away. This way, Nic was able to draw a large share of the market by branding his candles as all-natural and positivity-spreading. His best-seller is his first original candle, called the ‘Yes You Can-dle’, making it a unique play on words.

Since the Yes You Candle became a best-seller, Nic has made a variety of other candles based on spreading positivity to others in a simple way. He has a few categories of candles, including a Fly High Butterfly decorative candle, Yes You Candles with different themes like Perseverance and Warmth, basic scents from Bianchi Candle Co. like Sandalwood and Pomegranate, and HERO Candles themed to celebrate healthcare workers and armed forces. Bianchi Candle Co. also now provides a monthly subscription to receive a candle along with occasional surprise gifts, like stickers.

Nic Bianchi is dedicated to his craft and spreading positivity, which has been the key to his success.

All Natural Scents!

We all have experienced some point in our lives when we walk into a house that just has the most welcoming scent. A simple candle can change the way you view a house because it can mask that other odor of cat litter, wet dog, or smelly socks. Candles help us feel relaxed and welcomed. Nic Bianchi probably never thought he would earning a living from making candles but that all changed on his 12th birthday when his parents got him a candle making kit.

Papillion boy starts candle business in hopes to inspire others | KPTMAfter working around with making candles, he would go on to establish Bianchi Candle Co. and the Wild Worksman. He started selling his candles in Bel Angelo’s Boutique in Nebraska. Since then he has expanded to other local and non local shops. Along with his market expanding, he has been able to develop new fragrances for his candles which give people a larger variety. He makes his candles with all natural soy wax so that they are safer and actually burn longer than normal candles. It doesn’t stop there though, Bianchi took his first $200 profit and donated it to a police woman who was shot in duty. Since then, he has continued to donate back to the community.

Innovation occurs in all different ways and Bianchi took advantage of that when he was just 12 years old. From that, he was able to create a business that is profitable and is something that he enjoys.

Candles For Men?

I think teasing your siblings is very natural, it just comes with the water. Hart Main was teasing his sister about her “girly” scented candles she was selling for a fundraiser. This got him thinking though, “what if I created a manly smelling candle instead?” This is exactly what he did, with an investment by his parents and himself, he began ManCans, a manly scented candle that sells in over 60 stores across the country. Hart Main is only 14 years old and finding a unique market that has not really been touched. Candles are a very popular commodity too, I know at least for my family we have at least 4 running at all times. What is interesting about his idea is that there is no market for manly scented candles. Candles naturally smell more feminine, yes I like a lot of the scents but I can confirm that they smell more feminine. So why not make some that are catered towards men? Main made some cool smells too including: campfire, bacon, sawdust, fresh cut grass, grandpa’s pipe, and more.

Hart Main inspires me to be more open about looking for opportunities around me. He found this opportunity through something as simple as teasing his sister. There is opportunity all around me, it is just a matter of paying attention to the needs and wants of people, but also being aware of what people may not know they need or want. I don’t think candles for men were something that people knew they wanted, however, now that they are a thing, they are a cool product that makes a lot of sense. I mean think about it, a lot of candles out there smell good, but we are missing out on some smells that men enjoy like bacon and grass clippings. Hart Main hits it on the head, and he inspires me to really look for very unique opportunities around me to serve others better.

Candles for the Homeless: Brisco O’Donnell

I would like to spotlight a group of young brothers who are entrepreneurs in the candle business who are helping the homeless with their candle business. The great idea did nit just stem for a need to help to homeless, it actually grew for a need for more allowance. The three brothers, 13-year-old Collin, 11-year-old Ryan, and 8-year-old Austin, started the business in 2017 in order to try and get more money for video games and Nerf guns. It was by suggestion of their parents that they start a business, so the started a candle company named Frères Branchiaux. The goals of the business quickly evolved and are displayed in their mission statement, “Our mission is to provide great scents and inspiration through candles! We also have a goal to help people who are experiencing homelessness. We donate 10% of our profits to D.C.-area homeless organizations. We believe that community is important, so we made sure that our business also supported the community.”

Nic Bianchi’s Candles

Candles are becoming increasingly popular today, especially at this time of the year.  Yet many candles are made from paraffin wax, which releases carcinogens into the air when burned.  Natural candles made from soy or beeswax are on the rise and Nic Bianchi is capitalizing on this trend.

When he was twelve years old, his parents gave him a candle-making kit because he had always been interested in crafts.  He soon learned the art of candle-making and began selling his candles to family.  Over time, relatives began asking him to make more and when he sold 125 candles his first day at a craft fair, he knew he needed to market his product to a wider market.  They created a website and sold his candles in two stores: Bel’ Angelo and Twisted Sisters Salon.

He said in an interview that there were some hectic weeks like when he did a fundraiser for the late Omaha Police Officer, Kerrie Orozco.  He sold about 125 candles in 12 hours, he said, and they all needed to be finished in five days.  He ended up calling his cousins to come help him finish the orders in time.

Nic says his dream is to one day have a store-front for his candles, but for now, he’s taking the process slowly while he’s in school.  Nic is now 16 years old and is still selling his all-natural soy candles on his website, bianchicandleco.com.
