The Bridge to Success

Social media has been building bridges to new ways of innovation and entrepreneurship ever since it began. Those who have capitalized on it when it began, however, are the ones making all the money and gaining the most fame. Felix Kjellberg, or better known to some as “Pewdiepie,” created his youtube account only one year after the website was released. It wasn’t until 2011, though, that he began to post on what would become the largest account on the platform ever (owned by one person). He began by posting quite short and relatively boring videos on his account purely for the entertainment of his friends and himself. As time went on, more people began to find his account, subscribing to it, and Felix’s fanbase grew. Less than a year later he had surpassed the 1 million subscriber mark. He began to post more and more and only a year after that was at 10 million. It was safe to say that he was on the right track.

Pewdiepie began to create merch such as shirts, chairs, headsets, and eventually his own game on the app store. He was rapidly gaining fans and in the spring of 2019, the creator finally reached an astonishing 100 million followers, which meant that 1 in 15 people who used youtube was subscribed to his account. This may not seem like much, however, almost half of the country uses this platform. He is still creating to this day and after selling many products and featuring in other videos and ads, he has accumulated roughly a cool $45,000,000 from online interactions alone. Felix will forever be remembered in the industry of videomaking and for revolutionizing the world by his assistance in bridging the gap between the real and digital worlds of entrepreneurship.

The Mac Life

 

Greatness starts with a dream. For a young, broke, Irishman, this was all he had. A dream. Conor McGregor did not seem like anyone remarkable in his early twenties. The young Irishman, fresh out of school seemingly had no plans for life. He was working a grueling job as a plumber and hated life. Something had to change. That change came in the form of fighting, and McGregor took to it like a fish to water. Conor broke onto the Irish MMA (mixed martial arts) scene, rising through the ranks and eventually becoming champion of Cage Warriors, a fighting promotion popular in many European countries. Eventually, Conor became a two-weight division champion, earning him fame and recognition all over the world. This caught the eye of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and its owner Dana White. Conor later signed to the UFC, arguably the leading fight promotion company, and was set on a new path to greatness.

McGregor continued to rise through the ranks of the UFC, earning win after win. Eventually, Conor earned a title shot, winning it, and becoming the UFC’s first ever Irish Champion. However, this was not enough for McGregor, who then jumped weight classes and fought for another belt, becoming the UFC’s first ever double champion (holding two division belts at the same time). These two incredible accomplishments gave McGregor countless fans and high prospect fights. From 2013-2016 Conor would dominate the sport, raking in win after win. Eventually, he stepped away from MMA, instead pursuing an enormous fight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and developed his own Irish Whiskey company: Proper Twelve.

In late 2018, Conor returned to MMA and the UFC, only to have a major loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, Conor’s troubles were only just beg

 

inning, over the next year McGregor was constantly surrounded by public drama and scandals. This prompted Conor to take a step back and rethink some of his choices. In early 2020, Conor returned yet again to the UFC, this time more dominant than ever, defeating legend, Donald Cerrone in only 40 seconds.

Conor McGregor is an example of what it is to be driven, dedicated, and tough. All attributes every entrepreneur should try to imbody. McGregor’s rise to fame and fortune through his skill and businesses further show him to be the excellent entrepreneur he truly is.

 

 

Anna Sitar: A Brand of Positive Encouragement

 

Anna Sitar is a social media influencer who’s main focus is to spread positivity and joy. She is active on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, and has a website to sell some merchandise like t-shirts and sweatshirts with quotes specific to her personal brand on them. Not quite an influencer, Anna still manages to pull many viewers through her wholesome content. She recommends different brands all the time, and is real about her experiences with her followers.

Her big debut came with her Poland travel blog that she posted on YouTube. Then, once TikTok became popular in the States, Anna started a TikTok account. Her content shows that she is a good-natured, encouraging, kind, and humorous person. Two catch phrases Anna is known for are: “I don’t want it” and “get with it.” Either one is a common phrase in her TikToks.

Although Anna does not have a lot of products to sell and grow as a business, she is cultivating a brand that reaches much further than products. Her clean content and positive outlook help her followers believe in the good that is in the world. Anna Sitar is an encouragement all around, and her entrepreneurial mindset is taking her places.

Her website states her philosophy quite simply: “There is no such thing as an unrealistic standard. This brand represents the fighters, the lovers, and the humans who know what they want, and will not rest until it is achieved. If you don’t believe in us, we don’t want it.” It’s an honest and beautiful brand that can cheer anyone up.

David Dobrik is a popular YouTube star that now currently makes comedic video that entertain people all over the world. In 2013 David started making short vine clip videos. From there he went on to partnering with some other people on vine building his popularity. This entrepreneur was not a big fan of school but showed created thinking and was able to entertain his teachers.

 

David Dobrik currently has 18.4 millions subscribers and continues to make comedic videos. He has used his wealth to give back by having give aways. He is sponsored by many different companies and goes on tours around the world enlightening people with his personality. David has also expanded his talent to TikTok (20+ million followers) and he is planning on hosting a show on the discovery channel.

Lauren Bush of FEED

Lauren Bush is granddaughter of former U.S. President George W. Bush. Yet, she chose to impact the world in a different way than pursuing politics. At 23 years old Lauren Bush started the FEED Project.

A formal model and fashion guru, Bush founded the company in order to combine fashion and philanthropy. The company was one of the first to be an impact-driven lifestyle brand. They create products that help feed children across the world. Every product that is purchased, a margin of the profit is used to provide meals to schoolchildren. The labels on all FEED products equals how many school meals the customer’s purchase will provide. This was different than any other donation-based product in the past, since the number was much more impactful to customers than stating that a certain percentage will be contributed.

The brand is partnered with the U.N. in order to fulfil the meal-giving portion of the business. While these types of social impact businesses are now fairly common, in 2007 when FEED was first introduced it was a new idea. Bush is an important young entrepreneur to learn about because she found a way to bring together her interests in a unique way that leads to social impact.

Jessica Alba is a well-known actress starring in movies and television series such as Honey and Dark Angel. Her fame has helped her create her own company and become a successful businesswoman. In 2011, Alba founded The Honest Company, a company who focuses on selling safe and toxin-free items to use in households. Their brands includes baby items such as diapers and wipes, as well as beauty products and personal care.

Alba had a large following after starring in popular movies and used that fame to bring attention to her company. She started this company after becoming a mom and not wanting to use household or beauty items containing chemicals. She called her brand The Honest Company because there are no chemicals used to create their items. Instead, they use all-natural ingredients that are proven to be beneficial. She said, “I created The Honest Company because you shouldn’t have to choose between what works and what’s good for you.”

The Honest Company believes in creating sustainable and environmentally friendly products to help the earth. They hope to change the impact that all products have, especially towards the environment. For every purchase that is made through their company, they will support Social Goodness’ work. It helps them to research safe products to use, creating a positive impact on the world. Lin Manuel Miranda and the Business of a Broadway Show

Lin Manuel Miranda was born of Puerto Rican decent in New York City in the early eighties and was raised in the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood of Washington Heights. After completion of high school, Miranda attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut. It was here that he would get his beginnings as a playwright. He wrote and performed the first draft of his first successful stage musical, In The Heights, during his sophomore year in college (1999). The musical is a fictional story, based on Miranda’s childhood neighborhood (Washington Heights). After graduation, he met director Thomas Kail and the two of them revised the show, leading to a successful off-Broadway run and eventually opening on Broadway itself, casting himself as the main character. The musical was a hit, receiving 13 Tony Award nominations, four of which they won, including Best musical and Best Original Score.

After brief stints on television shows and various other song writing projects, Miranda struck what is now considered theatrical gold, his most well known work, Hamilton: An American Musical. This show took him over half a decade to write and revise and stage, but it was well worth it in the end. The show premiered off-Broadway in the Public theater in January of 2015, again with himself cast as the leading role. It’s since opened on Broadway in the Richard-Rodgers theater (the same theater In The Heights showed in). Miranda hosted daily performances outside the theater entitled Ham4Ham in which attenders would have the opportunity to enter a ticket lottery for a chance to see the show in the first row. In addition to having an incredible show, it was engagement with his audiences, both formal and general, that made Miranda so successful. The show still runs full time in New York City as well as Chicago, London, and San Francisco, and it also has two national tours. With each of these performances, Miranda receives a 3% royalty fee which, as you would expect, has lined his pockets quite nicely. He’s used this platform for political activism, especially calling for faster and increased aid to his hurricane-devastated homeland of Puerto Rico. The cast of Hamilton frequently raised money for various causes after shows (a practice they still continue today). These actions and interactions with the media, other celebrities, and even the common american, has helped build show brand that is not only incredibly profitable, but is beloved by the world.

Since leaving his Hamilton project behind, Miranda has starred in the Disney movie “Mary Poppins Returns” as well as writing the music for “Moana,” the upcoming live action “Little-Mermaid” remake, and even the new Star Wars trilogy. He continues to add value and personality to every project he touches, which in turn continues to make him as successful as he’s been.

The 23-year-old French American actor has branded himself as hip, relaxed, and edgy—a combination that has many young millennials swooning. His breakout role was in Call me by Your Name, a coming-of-age indie film that grossed $41.9 M worldwide. He’s also had major roles in movies like Interstellar, Lady Bird, and Beautiful Boy, and shows like Law and Order, Homeland, and The King.

Over the past two years, he’s been nominated for two Golden Globes and an Academy Award for best actor. The New York Times named Chalamet one of the best actors of the year, and he appeared in the Forbes’ 30 under 30 list as one of the most influential people in the Hollywood and Entertainment category.

In addition to being a millenial forerunner on the big screen, Chalamet is also revolutionizing the runway. According to Lyst’s Year of Fashion Index, he is currently the most influential man in fashion. In the 2019 report, he was second best overall, following only Meghan Markle. You’re probably wondering: what makes this guy so special? Well, unlike many other Hollywood actors, Chalamet designs his own red-carpet looks, without the help of a stylist. His style has been described as, “[a mix] between traditional masculinity and femininity, often choosing slim, soft tailoring over traditionally bold cuts,” which is complete innovation in the fashion industry. If nothing else, Chalamet’s outfit choices have inspired young men worldwide to experiment with printed tees, white sneakers, and bomber jackets.

While not everybody can agree on the ethical affiliation of his movies, Timothee Chalamet’s innovation within Hollywood is undeniable, which is what makes him such an influential millennial entrepreneur.

Shawn Johnson East has accomplished a lifetime of achievements that include 4 Olympic medals, two New York Times best-selling books, starting a business, a career in broadcast, and winning ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

After her gymnastics career, Shawn decided to focus on herself and her passions. She wrote 2 books, Shawn Johnson, Olympic Champion: Stories Behind the Smile and Winning Balance: What I’ve Learned So Far About Love, Faith and Living Your Dreams and became a philanthropist. In these books, she focused on her life and journey in the Olympics and how her intense training affected her personally and physically.

Her books led her to be the co-founder of The Body Department, a website dedicated to helping women accept and openly talk about self-image, health, wellness, and fitness. She realized that her entrepreneurial goal was to reach women that experienced and struggled with the same things she went through during and post Olympics.

Shawn has done a great job of sharing her struggles and her story with the world so her experiences can help others. Through her accomplishments and entrepreneurial journey, she was able to get to her goal of reaching women. Shawn recognized that there was a window of opportunity for her to share her story with others, and she did it very well and impacted so many women.

Justin Drew Bieber is a musical artist and actor from Canada. He came onto the scene young in 2008 as a 13 year old from doing musical covers on YouTube. Talent manager Scooter Braun discovered him which led to him signing with RBMG Records. The next year, Bieber released his debut Ep, My World. This really made him blow up as his EP was certified Platinum in the US and had seven songs appear on the Billboard Hot 100. A year later, he released his first official album, My World 2.0, which appeared at number 1 in multiple countries and was certified triple platinum. Bieber never looked back and he continues to release hit after hit, even today. He has sold an estimated 150 million records, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Bieber has also won plenty of awards throughout his career, including an AMA for Artist of the Year in both 2010 and 2012, a Grammy for Best Dance Recording, and a Latin Grammy just to name a few. He has been listed three times by Forbes magazine among the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world, in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Bieber has also used his platform to launch business ventures and used his money to invest in startups. His main business is a nail polish line of his own called ‘The One Less Lonely Girl.’ Justin Bieber’s net worth is currently valued at $265 Million.
