LEGACYBOX

Legacybox, which originally started as an e-commerce company named Southtree, was started in 2013 by Adam Boeselager (left) and Nick Macco (right). These two were former roommates at Lee university in Tennessee and orginially started Southtree out of their garage. Southtree served as a foundation for what is now known as their second company: Legacybox. Legacybox digitizes, that is puts old media such as VCR and tapes, onto a digital platform such as a flashdrive. While the two are compelled to digitize media well, their foundational desire is to preserve family memories so that family history may be maintained. What a neat, creative way to preserve family life! Legacybox IS the “largest and most trusted home movie digitizer”; over 850,000 families in America trust use or have used Legacybox.

The success of this company can largely be attributed to its founders. The two roommates have a unique passion and drive for this company’s success. They started the company with a very successful Kickstarter campaign and in 2017 were named one of the fastest growing companies in America by Inc. Magazine. Based out of Chattanooga Tennessee, Legacybox has a staff of about 200 professionals which digitize the different forms of older media by hand and communicate with customers while the digitizing process is occurring so they stay up to date.

Pictured below is a current option for one wishing to digitize their media. Typically, the most popular forms of digitizing are thumb drives, digital(phone), and DVD. Legacybox makes the process of digizting quite easy; after the customer picks what format of digitizing he/she would like, Legacybox sends the desired box size to the customer with a barcode sheet and prepared shipping label located inside. This makes the process of sending in old media much more convenient for the customer. If this was not already enough, Legacybox also sends a welcome guide with instructions indicating the proper steps to take for customers. I love the simplicity and directness of this company. They surely thought from different angles and perspectives as they have made the consumer’s experience quite friendly.

Forever – the Memory Keepsake Website

Memory is one of the most treasured parts of each person’s story, but many people rely simply on their mental abilities to store their memories. In more recent years, social media has served as a platform to store memories, but it’s not the most dependable and they’re not platforms that will forever exist.

FOREVER is a 2012 Tech Startup, based out of Pittsburgh, that makes it easy for all of your memories to be “digitized, secured, and ready to be enjoyed for generations to come.” For a one-time price, customers are given what they call FOREVER Storage that’s guaranteed to last for your lifetime plus 100 years. The FOREVER Storage design ensures security by backing up in multiple places across multiple regions, which can be shared for generations to come.

The FOREVER business design is unique, offering an assortment of different ways that customers can creatively store their memories, whether through picture albums, different designs, scrapbooking, videos, or digital art. Their website not only offers their main product – FOREVER Storage – but also sells notebooks, a FOREVER Box, and photobooks.

Personally, this isn’t something that I would pay to use myself, but I can certainly see the attraction for people who want an easy, dependable way to store their pictures and videos so that generations to come can enjoy and easily access those memories. It’s worth checking out their website, despite your interest!

#chalamania

Just as Leonardo Dicaprio changed the way Generation X viewed the film industry, Timothee Chalamet has now become the spokesperson for millenials in the world of Hollywood. The 23-year-old French American actor has branded himself as hip, relaxed, and edgy—a combination that has many young millennials swooning. His breakout role was in Call me by Your Name, a coming-of-age indie film that grossed $41.9 M worldwide. He’s also had major roles in movies like Interstellar, Lady Bird, and Beautiful Boy, and shows like Law and Order, Homeland, and The King.

Over the past two years, he’s been nominated for two Golden Globes and an Academy Award for best actor. The New York Times named Chalamet one of the best actors of the year, and he appeared in the Forbes’ 30 under 30 list as one of the most influential people in the Hollywood and Entertainment category.

In addition to being a millenial forerunner on the big screen, Chalamet is also revolutionizing the runway. According to Lyst’s Year of Fashion Index, he is currently the most influential man in fashion. In the 2019 report, he was second best overall, following only Meghan Markle. You’re probably wondering: what makes this guy so special? Well, unlike many other Hollywood actors, Chalamet designs his own red-carpet looks, without the help of a stylist. His style has been described as, “[a mix] between traditional masculinity and femininity, often choosing slim, soft tailoring over traditionally bold cuts,” which is complete innovation in the fashion industry. If nothing else, Chalamet’s outfit choices have inspired young men worldwide to experiment with printed tees, white sneakers, and bomber jackets.

While not everybody can agree on the ethical affiliation of his movies, Timothee Chalamet’s innovation within Hollywood is undeniable, which is what makes him such an influential millennial entrepreneur.

Ryan’s ToysReview

Hot Wheels. Barbies. Legos. Kids love toys and there is no doubt about it. Eight-year-old Ryan Kaji decided that he would voice his own personal experiences though his own YouTube channel, Ryan’s ToysReview. This channel makes millions each year by publishing a wide variety of product review videos showcasing the latest toys. According to Business Insider, an American financial and business news website, in 2017 Ryan’s channel grosses $22 million. This insane amount of revenue earned Ryan’s ToysReview the highest earning YouTube channel of the year. To put this young entrepreneur’s success in perspective, this impressive total doubled from the previous year.

As of September 2019, Ryan had over 21 million YouTube subscribers and over 31 billion views on his videos. Sometimes during his videos, Ryan is joined by his twin sisters or his parents. In addition to product review videos, sometime Ryan films educational clips or unboxing products. He also loves making his own science experiments, skits, music videos, and DIY arts and crafts. The Kaji family works together to release a video almost every day. His channel, Ryan’sToysReview, success has paved the way for multiple merchandise partnerships with big brands such as Walmart and Nickelodeon. Some of the products that Ryan’s ToysReview offers are notebooks, stuffed animals, action figures, headphones, toothpaste, blankets, backpacks, lunchboxes, pinatas, and so much more!

Although Ryan clearly isn’t managing his own channel or business deals on his own, he still was able to exercise his entrepreneurial spirit and start his YouTube channel in 2015. In addition to Ryan’s ToysReview there are a variety of supporting or similar channels such as Ryan’s Family Review, Combo Panda, Gus the Gummy Gator, and The Studio Space. Each channel has its own original content and is viewed by billions. Ryan’s small hobby has blossomed into a multi-million-dollar business.

Parker Walbeck – Leading instructor for aspiring filmmakers

If you have had any desire to film something or watched any camera product reviews / how to’s, chances are that you’ve probably heard of Parker Walbeck. If you haven’t, you might be more familiar with his incredibly successful company, called Full Time Filmmaker.

Before Full Time Filmmaker, Peter was a director, cinematographer, and editor for Youtube channel devinsupertramp, whose channel focused on a wide variety of videos, from video game-inspired action shorts to incredible athletic feats to beautiful shorts of iconic locations around the world. Devinsupertramp has garnered plenty of attention with filmmaking enthusiasts, with their smooth camera work and editing style, thanks to both the creator of the channel, Devin Graham, and Peter Walbeck. Peter aided Devin’s channel from the beginning of 2013 to August of 2015, before departing to begin his own channel, called Peter Walbeck, that had the same feel as devinsupertramp. However, on Peter’s new channel, he began focusing on the behind-the-scene aspects of creating such videos, such as recommended equipment and tools. He even delved into the world of product reviewing, where he will pit cameras or camera equipment against their competitors to list their pros and cons and give his thoughts on which product would be best for what scenarios

After some time, Peter Walbeck launched Full Time Filmmaker sometime in 2016, which (for a price) gave aspiring filmmakers courses filled with tips and info, discounts on products/programs, free tools, and so much more. Since he is someone that is avidly in the filmmaking world, creating videos for large companies, weddings, and real estate videos, he has plenty of information to give to individuals looking for it. Through the creation of this company, his assistance with Youtube channel devinsupertramp, and his own Youtube channel, Peter has used his knowledge of the difficult world of filmmaking to benefit those who want to learn. His channel has amassed 1.6 million views within the past month, which could be giving him a max revenue at $16,000 a month. Full Time Filmmaker costs a one-time payment of $799 and has 8,000 current members, putting his possible profits from his company at 6.4 million dollars. To put it simply, Parker Walbeck found a problem in the world of filmmaking and capitalized upon it using the knowledge he had earned from previous works.

Varun Agarwal: Don’t Think

In our free market society, people are jumping at the opportunity to put their thoughts into actions. Varun Agarwal is no exception as he shatters the status quo in India. Despite the pressures at home, Agarwal refused to pursue a meaningless career and searched for a path he was passionate about. As a first-generation Indian, Agarwal was pushed to become a doctor or engineer, but his pasImage result for varun agarwalsion was film. His mother and Anu Aunty were adamant that he should think about how making meaningless videos would risk everything. With fear of shaming his mother and failing in the film industry, Agarwal decided to pursue engineering. Unfortunately, he failed in this industry because the material left him uninterested and wanting more. After graduating with an engineering degree, Agarwal decided to take a different approach, not thinking instead of thinking, because he already failed. As a result, he co-founded a company that sells school and college merchandise in India at the age of twenty-two with his friend Rohn Malhotra. Alma Mater began at zero, but grew to be an impressive million dollar company working with over 400 schools and colleges across India. The idea began when they had a desire to donate to their high school. Charitable donations quickly developed into selling merchandise as a way for schools to receive more funding.

Not only has Agarwal created his own company, but he continues to dabble with film, writing, and public speaking. His parents started to get on board with the less traditional route when YouTube agreed to partner with Agarwal and when his company took off. Anu Aunty, however, was still critical about Agarwal’s career choice.

In response to her negative commentary, Agarwal wrote a book that shows how he navigated through the challenges and pressures he faced during his early twenties called How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded a Million Dollar Company. Publishing the novel brought Anu Aunty fame, and she finally dropped her critiques.

When Agarwal speaks, he encourages his audience to think less about failing and the future and act more spur of the moment. We should not be held back by our fear of failure, it is something we should embrace because everyone will fail at some point in their lives. Following your dreams and passion is how you will be successful. What impressed me about Agarwal’s mentality, was that he did not measure success by salary, but rather by the joy he and others got out of his products. Having this mentality encouraged him to try the impossible and risk it all. For Agarwal, he believes his greatest failure was thinking too much, so now he takes the approach of thinking less, and he seems to be doing alright.

Currently with over 3.5 million subscribers on YouTube, Andrew and his channel Binging with Babish has taken the site by storm through his artful and accurate recreations of some of the most famous culinary creations throughout film, TV, and video games. The name Binging with Babish comes from the character Oliver Babish from the TV series, The West Wing, one of Rea’s favorite TV series. The channel’s first viral hit that rocketed the series’ popularity and growth was a video in which he recreated The Moistmaker Thanksgiving sandwich from the TV series, Friends.

Rea started in his own humble home, moved to a New York City apartment, and has now recently acquired a studio kitchen/apartment combo in which he and his business partner, Sawyer, work out of. Rea and his series are the perfect embodiment of taking an unsuccessful situation, in this case Rea’s film-making career, and adding a new element, his passion for the food and film worlds, and turning it all into a more than successful career and bright future.

Good Mythical Morning!

Rhett and Link are a huge YouTube sensation today with thousands of dedicated followers and their own merchandise. This comedic duo has been together since first grade and still remain the best of friends now. What started out as their own website in 2005, Rhett and Link made hilarious videos, usually satirical songs that had perfect harmony and humor. However, when YouTube started, their videos became more viewed. In 2007, the duo gained over 800,000 views in just a few months (a feat that is extremely impressive, considering that this was the really early days of YouTube). This video, The Facebook Song, proved to be their most popular video (now at 17 million views today). In addition to them being one of the first viral videos, they also are one of the few channels that has been around for the entirety of YouTube’s life. Another part of their lucrative business is their daily show, Good Mythical Morning, which is a 20 minute long morning talk show filled with crazy food taste tests and lots of competitions.

What makes Rhett and Link such amazing millennial entrepreneurs is their dedication to their customers, and their desire to keep being creative with their skits. Additionally, they have found a way to create something they love and that pays the bills for them and their families. With that in mind, they also have gained a large fan base, giving them the ability to sell merchandise and write books (both of which fly off the internet shelves). All through the process, they remain humble about their success. With their success, they promise to increase their humor and quality, both of which have definitely improved. Rhett and Link truly are national treasures and deserve recognition for all of their hard work. With classic (and mostly clean) humor, they are a joy to watch and laugh at.

Hollywood Needs Entrepreneurship Too!

When stripped down to its core, entrepreneurship represents a few very simple things; the ability to identify a problem and solution, develop a new approach, and build a network.  These qualities are needed for more than just running a business, they are necessary for making it in the competitive world of Hollywood.

Thirty-two year old Director Damien Chazelle is a perfect example of how even young people can get big in a cut throat industry when you apply the principles of entrepreneurship…

1. Damien identified an area where he was passionate.

Growing up, Damien was obsessed with film making and jazz. It influenced nearly every big decision he made.

2. He narrowed down his product (his talents).

Although his passion was equally split between film and music, he was hard pressed to make his musical talent match his passion. This caused him to turn away from music as a pursuit, and instead focus on film.

3.  He started small, with a big goal in mind.

After college he moved out to LA. His long term dream was to get funding for La La Land, which he wrote while in Harvard . Before he even considered starting production on that, he worked as a writer for several years. The result of this were films such as Grand Piano and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

4. He networked.

Not only did working as a writer keep him financially solvent, but it also helped him make connections. He began to work out the puzzle of Hollywood, and how to play its game while staying on top.

5. He expanded.

After years of networking and writing, Damien created a short film called “Whiplash”. He screened it to a group of producers and received funding to make a feature film. The rest is history.

6. He retained his original voice and passion.

Whiplash went on to receive multiple awards. Damien received funding, and guided his original dream of La La Land to critical and box office success. Throughout the entire process Damien’s original passion remained unchanged. He combined his love for film and music, and an entrepreneurial mind to become one of the most successful and highly acclaimed directors working today.
