Three Nails Clothing-Derek Dahl

Three Nails Clothing is a clothing company designed for athletes who want to represent God’s kingdom. Derek was a college basketball player that wanted something more. He wanted to become a professional basketball player, but after college, he became a financial advisor. Derek knew he wanted to do something more than a 9 to 5 job. Finally, he used an idea that he had been thinking about for a long time, and after a lot of brainstorming and prayer, he finally decided to start his own company. Derek wanted comfortable, athletic wear that he could wear to the gym, but he also wanted something that represented his beliefs and values. In turn, he created Three Nails Clothing. Dahl wanted to create a sleek and minimal design that represented something meaningful to the Christian religion, so he decided to use the cross. The Cross represents God’s sacrifice to the world and seems like a perfect fit for Dahl’s company. He used clever designs to complete his logo by creating the cross with three nails, the three nails that nailed Jesus to the cross. Derek stated that “It is our hope that our brand’s subtle designs will allow you to cultivate conversations to share your faith in Christ with others.” This mission is beyond entrepreneurship and a clothing brand; what Derek has created is a brand focused on an eternal goal. The goal that brings others to Christ.

Something New In Fashion

Growing up, everyone is trying to fit in. From middle school up through adulthood, all everyone is trying to do is fit in and get on top of ever changing new styles. The fashion industry is never lacking with new inspiration. It is hard to stay on top of new trends, clothes, styles that different friends, family, athletes, and celebrities wear. However, as the designer it is difficult to create a style that someone hasn’t seen already. It has to be new, unique, and never seen before.

This young Entrepreneur does exactly that in the fashion industry, and has beenfor the better part of the last two years. Since graduating high school, Demetrius Mackey has started up working on his dream: designing new clothes, fashion, and style for people to wear. Traveling the world, from PA to California, to New York, and even Paris, he has had his product walk the runway in major fashion areas. It has even graced music videos by the likes of Lil Mosey, 6ix9ine, and many more.

Its a new style unique to him. He takes the time to ask people what they want to see on their clothes, rather than just give them something. He then incorporates new trends, and everyday things into his work. He paints, stencils, screen prints, and even draws all on the clothes he produces for people to wear. And they are taking the market by storm, and flying off the shelf.

Getting his product out was hard at first, but then came the word of mouth advertising and he was off and making products for anyone and everyone. He didn’t let the many challenges (bullying, being told no, saying its a women’s industry) to stop him. He kept his head down and worked. Published in many major magazines, in music videos, and gracing runways, this young Pittsburgh artist and stylist has being succeeding and opening new doors.

Hey it’s WordPress!

Matthew Mullenweg grew up with hobbies like coding, art and economics. A fun mix. One of the main founders of WordPress, his hobbies and skills throughout his life led to many amazing web related ideas. In 2005 Matt left school at Houston and a consulting job to start his overhead business, Automattic. This later led to a slew of other companies that used Automattic as a launch pad, including WordPress. He was just nineteen when he decided to change the way people use the internet to publish.

Automattic and all of its resulting companies has turned into a completely virtual company of over 1,100 employees in more than 62 countries.

WordPress, which is used by many authors and writers to publish blogs, was started because of the closure of b2, the only other open source platform option at the time. Having used b2 throughout his life, its end was a pain for Matt. The idea and plan for WordPress started when Matt was approached online by a fellow coder after he had talked about the lack of a publishing space.

Using b2 as a starting base and template, the two entrepreneurs proceeded to build upon the main idea while improving any faults. A classic mash up of ideas and innovation, WordPress is now used by over 31 percent of the web. It is only one of many successes Matt made for himself, but it very much added to the open source world of the web.

He works on it constantly and takes joy from the benefit people receive.

From educational to professional, WordPress has added levels of simplicity, convenience, and efficiency to the way people work. Matt has an entrepreneur’s  spirit, and from his career history so far, it is easy to see he looks for problems to solve and thrives in finding solutions.

BLDR Faith

In the Bible, Jesus calls his disciples to go out into the world and share the Word.  As Christians, we should strive to share the gospel with others and live boldly.  Blake Stanley, a high school student from Urbandale, Iowa, took this mission to heart.Blake Stanley (@blakestnley) | Twitter

Blake wanted to wear clothing that displayed his Christian faith, but he found that a lot of them were cheesy and “in your face.”  He wanted to design a shirt that made people stop and think about the deeper meaning.BLDR Apparel (@BLDRapparel) | Twitter

Growing up, Blake was taught to use his gifts for the glory of God, and he wanted to use his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to serve his faith. Hence, BLDR Faith was born in 2017. BLDR is an acronym for Birth Life Death Resurrection and is pronounced ‘bolder’.  These 4 simple letters hold the most powerful message in history, and Blake really loved that it could spark conversations about the gospel.

At the beginning of starting this company, Blake’s family and friends were apprehensive about BLDR because they didn’t want him to be judged for sharing his faith.  Despite this, Blake kept focus and reminded himself of Romans 1:16 which says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Even though he didn’t get much support or money in the beginning, he knew that he was working for a greater purpose.  He stayed motivated because of the customers who would come back and tell him how they were able to share the gospel by wearing the BLDR merchandise.BLDR Faith – BLDR Faith

Blake is currently taking a year off college to expand BLDR and its mission.  His company donates 25% of all proceeds to various missions.  This year, part of the donation will go to The Salt Network, which helps to plant churches on college campuses across the nation.  Additionally, BLDR will be donating to IllumiNATIONS, which is an organization devoted to translating the Bible in every language.

I really love the mission behind this organization, and it’s evident how the Lord has used Blake to share the gospel through his t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.BLDR Faith – BLDR Faith

Also, their merchandise is really cool – feel free to check BLDR out and support a small business at: https://bldr.faith/

New Idea – New Oppurtunity

Everyday, someone somewhere has a new idea they want to share. However, very few make it to market, or even make money for you. Getting your idea out there is hard, so hard in fact it is what separates entrepreneurs from dreamers.

Gerard Adams, CEO and founder of FOWNders social-impact accelerator in Newark, NJ to speak at TEDx September 28, 2016. (PRNewsFoto/FOWNders, Inc.)

It is hard. Ask Gerard Adams, an entrepreneur himself and founder of Elite Daily, how hard it is. He logged many hours into coming up and laying the ground work. He thought this would be the hardest, most time consuming part; however he was wrong, way wrong. His hardest part was taking that idea and publishing it and getting it noticed. It took time, time that he wishes went faster. So after a lot of thought, time, and energy put into one idea, he did what every entrepreneur does: threw it away and started all over. He had another idea, bigger, better, and one that benefits more than just him – Fownders.

Elite Daily  founder created a place that is a safe for young entrepreneurs to go and publish their ideas and share what they want to start up and create themselves. Fownders takes your OWN, orginal idea and gets it out into the world for you. It serves as a place to bounce ideas off each other, connect, and expand on new or old ideas. The website has connected many entrepreneurs, some of which combined ideas and made it big in half the time as others, say Gerard Adams. It even offers ways to help many young individuals create new ideas, and start ups that go on to make millions. So if you have a good idea that you are struggling to share, get out there with it, try Fownders.

Uptown Cheapskate – A New Approach to Clothing Resale

Scott and Chelsea Sloan, son and daughter of Brent and Shauna Sloan (founders of Kid to Kid), grew up watching their parents’ children’s clothing resale enterprise grow and become successful. As young adults, they began to see the need for a similar enterprise for their own generation. This lead to the development of their own company – Uptown Cheapskate. Uptown Cheapskate represents a new approach to teen and young adult clothing resale. They wanted to provide a more cost effective clothing option while still appealing to current styles and a positive shopping experience. They did this by designing upscale, modern stores and creating a better system for buying used items for resale. When you walk into an Uptown Cheapskate, it doesn’t feel like you’re walking into a thrift store. It feels as though you’re walking into a mall, but without retail prices! Their buying process ensures that sellers receive fair payments for their gently used clothing while Uptown Cheapskate keeps their racks stocked with high value, in-style items at low prices. In addition to creating a better customer experience within the resale industry, Uptown Cheapskate also encourages support for the environment and sustainable fashion. They understand that the increased consumption of new clothing items creates large amounts of waste, and that most used clothing ends up in landfills. Selling used clothing to Uptown Cheapskates allows your clothes to have a new life instead of adding to pollution. In the same way, buying used clothing instead of new is a much more sustainable way to shop!

IdeaPaint: Dry Erase Walls

John Goscha founded IdeaPaint, in the early 2000s. He and several friends, Andrew Foley, William Gioielli, and Alex Galperin, developed this idea through their college years. Seeing a need for dry erase walls first, when John and his entrepreneurship hall mates posted large sheets of paper up and down the walls of their hall. They eventually ran out of space on their idea sheets and had to continually replace them. Goscha decided to try and find some dry erase paint to make their lives easier. To his chagrin, there was no such thing!

John, Andrew and William started developing the business plan for IdeaPaint, and researching options and paints to test their product out. They made the walls dry erase and when students and faculty started using the walls, they realized this had an actual market. IdeaPaint received seed money for Babson, and the team began working to creating their product. After graduation, the team split up, but John Goscha kept at his idea. IdeaPaint has several setbacks finding a paint that would actually work commercially. They eventually found the perfect product, and received investors and are now a very successful company. Many large companies and universities, including Chick-fil-A, MIT, Go Daddy, Evernote, Welch’s, Google and more use IdeaPaint around their campuses.

John Goshca, came up with an incredible product idea, when he and his entrepreneurship buddies found a pain they were experiencing. He joined together with a few other classmates, realizing that working together would help him find a better solution, than if he had been working on his own. John did not let setbacks keep him down, but pursued his idea throughout the decade until he reached success. He has benefited so many individuals and companies through his hard work.

IdeaPaint now have many different options and products, including magnetic surfaces, dry erase + projector surfaces and others that allow lots of flexibility, and it all stemmed from the need to stop replacing paper on the walls of John Goscha’s dorm hall.

Makin Bacon Baby!

After Selling Millions, Family-Run Makin Bacon Battles Amazon CounterfeitersOne morning in 1993 an 8-year-old girl named Abbey Fleck and her dad were cooking bacon for breakfast. as she saw her dad’s struggle with all the bacon fat juice and cleaning it up with paper toils, she thought of an idea. What if there was a way to cook the bacon hanging as a dish of some sort collects the fat? That’s when Abbey and her father began to design what would eventually become the Makin’ Bacon dish. It’s a square, inch-deep skillet made of microwave-safe plastic. It has 3 T-shaped supports rising up from its center. The bacon cooks while draped over the crossbars of the central supports and the fat drips down into the dish.
Abbey’s solution and invention were not only an easier and healthier way to cook the bacon but it was also an inexpensive way. The dish itself only cost 7$. Knowing they had an amazing product Abbey and her father founded the company, A. de F. Ltd., and began selling Makin Bacon the next year. (1994) Since then the product has gotten tons of promotion from “Good Housekeeping” and they even negotiated a deal with Amour for the Makin Bacons packaging in the same year of release. Abbey even made a personal appearance on “The Late Night Show with David Letterman” and on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.
Abbey has gained a lot of entrepreneurial experience since then. She settled a patent infringement suit against a company in Pennsylvania that had begun to sell a similar product of hers. She acquired a patent for her “microwave cooking machine” in 1996. Still only 11 years old at this point.
Today the Abbey Fleck’s Makin Bacon is available on Amazon and at Walmart. She got the offer from Wallmart to distribute her product fairly soon after her release.

She is an inspiration to fathers and daughters out there that can work together to create something great. Even at that young age to she had a natural knack for business and entrepreneurship. Thanks to her bacon is better!
