Teenage Boy Creates Clothing Brand Focusing on Healthy Habits

17 year old Eli Zied has always had an eye for solving problems. After his freshman year in high school, he enrolled in a marketing summer program where he thought of the concepts that later formed Habits 365. The goal of this clothing brand is to challenge its customers to create healthy habits all year round.

He began by creating designs for logos and an Instagram page to spread awareness of his brand. His older brother even joined the business as COO. A big problem he faced in the early stages of his business was gaining brand exposure. He faced this challenge by reaching out to athletes, musicians, agents, trainers, dancers, and comedians by offering them free merchandise in exchange for a photo or a post. With the help of these influencers, he went from having a couple hundred Instagram follower to over 80,000. Zied has even become close with several NFL and NBA athletes who are prime example of setting healthy habits year round. Habits 365 has become very successful and turns over $55,000 each year.

With all of this going on, he still manages to maintain good grades. He credits this to setting his own healthy habits each day and setting aside time for both his business and schoolwork.

Zied believes that Habits 365 will become one of the biggest streetwear brands in the world eventually because of how relatable their message and vision is.

Shine: the Self Care App for Millennials.

Naomi Hirabayashi and Marah Lidey are the cofounders and co-CEOs of an app called Shine. Both women worked together and were excited to turn their side hustle into a business with the foundation of their professional relationship and personal friendship with each other. They left their day job to make this vision a reality.

The app is aimed at those who are struggling with mental health problems due to a variety of issues such as a breakup, a toxic boss, financial stress, or anything else. They wanted to help millennials navigate through the stresses of life and become more confident in themselves. They created an app that would remind users that they are never alone and to break the stigma around mental health issues. They started this business because they saw a problem and knew they were well equipped to solve it.

The reason Shine has become so successful is because of its accessibility. In order to reach those who are hurting, they knew they needed to make it a resource available to everyone. This tactic has been working for them- they surpassed over half a million users in its first year.

Shreyansh Gupta- Youngest Entrepreneur in India

Shreyansh Gupta- Digital Marketing Expert

Shreyansh Gupta became an astonishing entrepreneur by the ripe age of 14 and growing up he loved the idea of being his own boss and running his own business, but he wasn’t sure of how to make that possible. He gained a strong motive to learn, and he sought information on social media, online promotions, and web design. He started his own blog post and website based on the knowledge he gained from personal research. From there, he saw a need in digital marketing and focused his studies there.

Soon enough, the digital marketing field expanded, and it became a need in the workforce. Often times, Shreynash saw that brands would prefer digital marketing over traditional marketing. He started DevelopXmedia and expanded his business both nationally and internationally. Shreyansh Gupta became a “digital marketing expert” along with the youngest entrepreneur in India at that time. He is an inspiration to young entrepreneurs all around, that no matter your age, if you see a need in the community, pursue it. During an interview Shreyansh gives very insightful advice to up and rising entrepreneurs, “don’t wait for anything to happen as it is only you who has the potential to create and change a life.” What he means by this is that, if you have an idea, don’t wait for someone else to make the change, be the change yourself. Don’t procrastinate your projects and innovations, “I would suggest starting today” he says.

Shreyansh is a prime example of having the correct mindset. He did not start his business for the sole purpose of money, he started it because of an interest he had. This interest fueled his motivation and success in his business. He had many setbacks on the way and he says that those setbacks are what helped him to push forward and learn from his failure. “Success will definitely knock on your doorstep if you work with honesty,” he encourages to stray away from shortcuts that lead to quick and unlasting success; trust the process and do it right, then you will succeed.

The Buzz for Bee Downtown

Do you ever think about bees? Small little insects with a huge impact on our world today. With the bee population dwindling every year, beekeepers like Leigh-Kathryn Bonner founded Bee Downtown to save the bees while simultaneously giving companies a new way to think about sustainability.

Companies, like honeybees, are both hives. They both have workers and a queen to serve. With this in mind and the similarities between the two, Leigh-Kathryn Bonner, a fourth-generation beekeeper in her family, wanted to find a way to unite modern day companies with her passion for saving honeybees. Her idea was Bee Downtown, a business that installs beehives on corporate land while at the same time teaching companies about creating high-quality teams for businesses. It was a unique opportunity for Kathryn. Her family had already been beekeepers for a few generations and that same love for the environment and saving honeybees was already instilled into Kathryn.

Their main service is installing and maintaining beehives on corporate campuses. This gives a place for honeybees to live in the spring and summer and drives curiosity and engagement from the employees. With the bees living alongside these companies, Bonner hopes to educate the corporate world about sustainability and caring for the environment. However, Bee Downton also offers year-round programs to satisfy employee curiosity. From Beekeeping Classes, Hive Tours, and even Honey Tastings and an Annual Honey Extraction Festival, they offer a wide variety of education and entertainment for anyone wanting to save the bees. They also partner with some of the biggest companies in America like Burt’s Bees, Delta, and Chick-fil-A. The director of sustainable business at Burt’s Bees even said, “We love what Bee Downtown is doing. We appreciate the partnership and are impressed with the professionalism and customer service of all BDT team members! Every spring, we are so glad to have busy bees again. There’s an entirely different energy in the office when they’re here!”

Overall, Leigh-Kathryn Bonner is one of the true examples of an innovative entrepreneur. She combined a passion for beekeeping and a need for corporate sustainability and combined them to create a company with a wonderful idea at its core. Not only is it educational, but it’s also just plain fun! Maybe we should look into Bee Downtown and get a few beehives on campus as well!

Nannies by Noa: The Unique Nanny Service

Noa Mintz is a fascinating and truly inspiring millennial entrepreneur, who is currently a senior at Brown University. She grew up in the Upper West Side in Manhattan; at the age of 12 she created her own business, “Nannies by Noa”, which is currently a member of the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies. Her business serves affluent NYC families seeking well-educated and well-trained nannies on a regular basis. There are many different positions for the nannies ranging from part-time after school babysitting, to full-time 40 hours per week, Monday through Fridays.

According to a CNN Business article, Mintz’s idea came to her after her mother told her to “find a better babysitter.” Since Mintz didn’t like her own babysitter, she started looking for another one and later helped her friends find nannies too. She designed a thorough application process and started interviewing people for nanny positions.

Nannies by Noa’s application process is extensive. Understandably the application process requires multiple background checks, drug testing, but also includes three years in-home childcare experience requirement, two childcare employment references, a resume, an interview, and the requirement to be able to commit for at least one year. For example, there are a couple of active positions where some families have requested the nannies to speak French fluently. In many instances healthcare is also paid for by the families, which is unlike other major nanny services in the New York City area. Also, some families make arrangements for the nanny to have four weeks off for a vacation as well as the major federal holidays. Mintz has created a variety of different positions and services to best accommodate nannies as well as the families.

Nannies by Noa continues to thrive; even as Mintz is finishing up her last year studying Cognitive Neuroscience at Brown University, she continues to manage her childhood business.

Young Entrepreneurs: Sanil Chawla

Sanil Chawla, 19

Sanil Chawla is the founder of Hack+, a nonprofit to help young entrepreneurs easily move through the barriers presented by all the legal hurdles when starting a business. Sanil, a young entrepreneur himself realized through personal experience that there are so many legal obstacles to maneuver that it makes it intimidating and frustrating to get started.

To solve this problem, Sanil developed software that would create an automated process for all the legal paperwork needed to begin a nonprofit venture. When Hack+ was launched, the primary purpose was to provide a fiscal sponsor to charitable organizations that are being developed by students. Large companies like Amazon and Google have come alongside Sanil to help provide resources for the company that is directed to students which include business to business assistance. Sanil has garnered over $1 million with his team of 12 and has helped almost 1,000 students with his company.

Sanil has created an amazing tool for young entrepreneurs, there are so many young entrepreneurs with wonderful ideas. However, not many students have the resources or knowledge to get through all the legal paperwork and processes needed to get started on sharing their mission with others. This is a wonderful example of innovation, Sanil saw a gap that needed to be filled. He developed a company that provided a service for students that wasn’t offered anywhere else and made it accessible.

An entrepreneurial trait seen in Sanil is that his motivation was not found in profit. He started a nonprofit venture to help students launch their own nonprofit ventures. We see that Sanil’s motivation is found in service to others and seeking to push others toward success. Sanil presents a model for entrepreneurs starting any venture, what is your motivation? Sanil created a service that truly served its purpose, opening the door for entrepreneurship in young students.

Young Entrepreneurs: Hart Main

Hart Main is a great example of how inspiration for a product idea can come from a variety of sources – sometimes even jesting. Hart’s sister was selling what he called “girly” scented candles for a school fundraiser, and he gleefully took advantage of the opportunity, teasing her. However, when 13-year-old Hart’s heart got set on a $1,500 bicycle, he decided to turn this jest into a business opportunity.

ManCan Candles was born. The idea was candles that carry fragrances like “Grandpa’s Pipe” and “Sawdust.” With a little bit of investment from his parents, Hart was off and running. He decided to use soup cans for a holder and began working with his parents to develop scents for his candles. They are now available in every state.

This idea goes to show that inspiration for a business can be found almost anywhere – including in a joke. In fact, I’d wager that a lot of jesting about products like this could become viable businesses. After all, why did Hart make fun of his sister? Because all of the candles she was selling were “girly” scented. Hart unknowingly identified a problem with what was available candle-wise. Thankfully he didn’t just write it down as a bad joke but followed through with a solution to the issue that he identified – and he was successful with it: ManCan Candles makes over six-figures annually!

Eve Kekeh, founder of Bundlee

If you have kids, you know how quickly they grow out of clothes in their first two years. Eve Kekeh recognized this problem and started her own company to help parents seeking a more sustainable and convenient way to access baby clothes. Her company, Bundlee, is the UK’s first sustainable baby clothing rental subscription.

Having two younger siblings, Eve Kekeh experienced first hand just how quickly babies will grow out of their clothing. She says, “Babies outgrow 7 clothing sizes in their first 2 years, and seeing the amount of waste this led to made me think there had to be a better way.” While spending a year studying abroad in the US, Kekeh discovered a designer womenswear rental service. She fell in love with this idea and soon realized that this same concept could be applied to baby clothing. Through careful research and receiving useful feedback from hundreds of parents, Kekeh developed Bundlee.

Bundlee is unique as it is tailored to fit the parents’ (and babies’) specific clothing needs. You simply choose a subscription plan that works best for your family, wear the clothes with no worries (thanks to the included rental insurance), and then conveniently swap clothing as your little one grows. All returned clothes are then thoroughly cleaned through their eco-friendly Ozone sanitization method and sent on to be loved by the next family.

In order to provide the very best quality, Eve Kekeh designs all collections that Bundlee offers herself. In addition, all pieces are made in the UK in a women run and owned factory, where Kekeh frequently visits to ensure that it meets her ethical standards. While designing pieces, it’s important to Kekeh that all fabrics used are suitable for babies’ sensitive skin. That is why all clothes are made with breathable cotton and free of any harmful chemicals.

Bundlee has continued to grow and flourish over the past few years. Eve Kekeh shows true innovation as she has built a company that helps so many, while helping the planet as well.

Fixing Financial Planning

Do you know how to pay off student loans? Buy a home? Pay taxes? Well, that’s exactly what Rebecca Liebman was concerned about when she started LearnLux.

Personal finance isn’t covered in school, so young entrepreneur Rebecca Liebman came up with a solution to teach people about how to manage your money. LearnLux was started back in 2015 and is an online learning tool to explain different aspects of personal finance to anyone wanting to learn. Rebecca and her brother, both co-founders, came up with this solution after graduating college and wanting to relieve the stress that came with developing a financial plan. On the LearnLux website, it talks about their customers and says, “They are navigating the murky waters of the financial system alone, falling prey to predatory practices, and sinking deep into the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle.” This demonstrates that many people are worrying about finance in the modern world and shows the lack of education regarding this issue.

Their services include understanding equity compensation, funding emergency savings, building credit, and more. LearnLux also offers 1 on 1 calls with a certified Financial Planner in an unbiased manner. They advertise unbiased guidance, a configurable learning experience, and holistic teaching environment. They even have high quality lessons with digital planning for your financial plans, interactive content, and incentive and reward tools to keep you coming back!

Overall, this is a very clever idea and benefits both a common social problem as well as being a for-profit model that aims to make money. Rebecca saw a very clear need in the world and, along with her brother, developed a simple solution to help. Their primary drive was the lack of education regarding financial planning and how to communicate about these issues. Not only is LearnLux a creative solution to a common problem, but it includes different features to keep customers coming back and engaging with their product.

LearnLux is a great example of innovation and having entrepreneurial impact on the world. Rebecca saw a social problem, addressed it, and came up with an original way to help fix it. Everyone needs to learn how to manage finance, so maybe I’ll start using LearnLux too!
