Jungmin Kang & “Snoopslimes”

Jungmin Kang was just 13 years old when she started her slime business in 2017. She became familiar with ‘slime’ through social media, as she enjoyed watching ASMR slime videos. Soon, she started her own e-commerce slime business using her allowance money. She launched her own social media and website for ‘Snoopslimes,’ selling various different types of slimes.

Kang’s business started small, but it has now grown larger than she could have ever imagined. Her social media following has now reached over 6 million, and she has sold over 1 million slimes total. To grow her business, she consistently posted high-quality videos of her slime products on Instagram and TikTok. Many of these videos went viral, which helped to spread the word about her company. In just over a year of posting on her social media, Kang had gained over 1 million followers.

Kang explains on her website that her product is a “therapeutic sensory toy” that provides a “creative outlet” for customers. Snoopslimes serves a wide array of customers, from young children who use slime as a fun toy to adults who use slime for “stress relief.”

Kang has found interesting ways to innovate in the slime market. She uses a “drop-based” business model, meaning that she launches a new supply of slimes every week at the same time. Some of the slimes stay the same every week, and others are brand-new or seasonal. Many of her slimes are carefully curated to coincide with current trends, events, or media. This business model creates more interest and demand; she can be more creative in the slimes she launches each week and many of the slimes sell out quickly after the drop time.

Kang also offers ‘slime subscription box’ plans for dedicated customers. The Snoopslime website also has a ‘Slime 101’ page for slime information and care, as well as a ‘Slime Lookbook’ page where visitors can see slimes from previous drops.

Kang is an inspiring example of a young entrepreneur who found an extremely niche interest and used her creativity to satisfy a need in the market.

FireflySlime: A very bright idea

Angelina Ly is a young woman blessed with a raw talent for entrepreneurship. When she was just 14 years old, she recognized that the slime industry was starting to gain traction in America, so she wasted no time in getting her foot in the door. She began to make her own slime and marketing herself on Social Medias like Instagram and TikTok. She quickly began to receive orders and FireflySlime was born. While her business is her official job (developing new slimes, packaging them, and continuing to grow her social medias), Ly is still a full-time college student. I loved Ly’s ability to see the future of her business and take full advantage of it. Today, Ly has nearly 380 thousand followers on Instagram. Her online store is similar to her Instagram page: it is filled with bright colors, fun names, and awesome graphics. Another great feature is that she is constantly refreshing her store’s variety; proving that she is still always creating and providing new products for her customers.

Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue

Maddie Rae came up with the business Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue. It all started when she was 11 years old from Fairfield, Connecticut. At the time slime was a big thing. At that age it usually is, and she was obsessed with it. When she went to the store to make it with her dad there was no glue to make the slime with! They were completely out and that’s where it all started. She decided to make her own glue for the slime since everywhere was slacking. How could a kid miss out on this childhood activity! She wanted to make she this didn’t happen. So, she created glue that was made for slime specifically. The ingredient she found to be the key was polyvinyl alcohol. She released the product in 2017 on Amazon and to other retailers. Since then, she has expanded her store to include all of the products that would be used in slime making. This makes it easier for people to buy exactly what they need and creates a place that everything can be purchased. She currently even has her own website at www.slimemaking.com.

Making customers stick like glue: Maddison Greenspan of Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue

In 2017, slime enthusiasts were met with some unwelcome news pertaining to their new niche hobby. There was a slime shortage along with other ingredients that are used to make slime. This led to people create their own recipes using alternative ingredients, until Madison Greenspan came along. Madison was 11 years old at the time but wanted to capitalize on a potential solution. As a result, Maddie Rae’s Slime Glue was born.

Madison saw how the glue shortage was affecting something that she was passionate about and wanted to create a solution that others would easily be able to use. She enlisted her Dad and was able to form a team along with her own brand of glue.

In addition to this, Madison also broke the record for having the world’s largest slime. The slime weighed a grand total of 13,820 pounds when they were finished. Madison, in part, created the slime to show that no matter how big or insurmountable your dreams may be, there is always a way to accomplish them. To celebrate but also build her entrepreneurial ethos, Madison created 5,000 jars filled with the world record slime that is now for sale. All of the proceeds will be donated to charity.

Overall, Madison’s story has taught me that it is important to pursue what you are passionate about. Madison is extremely successful at a young age and has continued to move forward. She has taken something that she enjoyed, tested it and made it more efficient than before. Madison has also diversified her line by creating new colors that are accessible to consumers. I was also inspired by Madison’s willingness to seek out help. At the age of 11, Madison likely had no practical business experience and enlisting someone like her father to form a team was surely a big step when creating a brand.
