Kyle Giersdorf: Gamer entrepreneur

Kyle Giersdorf others know him as Bugha which is his in-game user name. Kyle was born on December 30, 2002, and grew up in Pottsgrove Pennsylvania. Bugha’s entrepreneurial venture started when his father mentioned an up-and-coming game called Fortnite. Bugha fell in love with this game and later started to stream on Twitch. Twitch is a gaming live stream platform that allows watchers to donate and subscribe. Bugha was so good at the game that slowly more and more viewers started to join his stream and he started to make a ton off the money of the subscriptions. Bugha also started to win many tournaments and even qualified for and won the Fortnite world cup in 2019. After this, he blew up and created a youtube that now has 4.28 million subscribers.

Bugha, after he had a very big following on all platforms, started to create affordable PC accessories like keyboards mouses and even some PCs. He created these products because when he was young keyboard was so expensive and he could never buy them so now with his products he changed that for many young kids that want to games. Bugha taught me many things throughout his entrepreneurial venture. The first thing I learned is to find something you love instead of trying to do what other people want you to do because then you won’t put your all into your venture. Bugha’s family was very hesitant about his idea of trying to pursue gaming as a job but with some good persuasion, he finally got their approval to chase his dream. Bugha’s story really encourages me to go out and do what I love and hopefully make as much money as he did.

Matt’s story teaches us alot about following your dreams and pursuing them. Matt was so into Blogs and websites that he dropped out of school to pursue his job. And in doing that he created a massive company from his own hands. To think that only 19 years old Matt thought of an idea this complex is truly increadible.

Marques Brownlee – Growth With Technology

Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) is a technology YouTuber that started posting videos in high school reviewing pieces of tech. However, his channel did not see significant growth until college. There, he made videos in his dorm room between school work and found money to purchase products to review. He has always heavily emphasized quality in his videos from the sets to videography to audio. His biggest breakthrough was having the opportunity to interview Kobe Bryant.

Today, Marques has multiple channels and over ten people on his team. He has divided everything involved in creating content to different people to ensure the highest quality work. Currently, he has his main channel, the Studio channel, a YT Shorts channel, a podcast channel, and an Auto Focus channel. The Studio channel focuses on behind the scenes and activity in the studio, and Auto Focus is a car review channel that he started recently.

On top of these, Marques plays ultimate frisbee professionally. Not only is he one of the best on his team, but they recently won the championship. Somehow, he finds time to be a great athlete while making lots of content weekly.

Marques has a big influence on so many people with his entrepreneurial mind. His drive and determination to do what he loves is present and impactful. Seeing the level of success he has seen on YouTube while playing ultimate professionally is not seen anywhere else. While his channels have grown, he has began to outsource the work to more employees. It is crazy to see that YouTube, along with sponsorships and others, have been able to pay him and allow him to have a big studio with over ten full time employees. His work is noticed and inspires me to do what I love.

Ben Pasternack

Ben Pasternack is an Australian technology entrepreneur, and he is the CEO of three businesses. The three businesses he runs are called simulate, flogg, and monkey. It all started when he was just 14 and got bored in his science class so he decided to create a fun app to pass the time. He created the app called “impossible rush” and this had over 2 million downloads. The best part of his story was what he put in his locker at the end of eight grade that read “If you’re reading this, you really f—ed up.” He said he wanted to never go to school again and wanted to make money with his apps. His most successful business is called simulate and his signature product is NUGGS which is a plant-based nugget simulation. I thought that his story was very interesting because he was not the type of kid to pay attention in any of his classes in school. I respect how he found what he was good at and just focused on that when starting his own businesses. His journey is inspiring because at the young age of 16 he had to move from Australia to the United States by himself. He said there were times he felt very lonely but fought through it by focusing on his passion of developing new apps. I also thought it was clever how he uses different social media platforms to reach his customers. He takes full advantage of the web so he can optimize his success for each of the businesses he owns.

Carl Pei – Nothing Out of Something

Carl Pei knows how to create hype and gain an audience quickly. He has founded two companies in his lifetime, OnePlus and Nothing. OnePlus is a smartphone company that began with phones labeled “flagship killers.” He was able to offer smartphones with great specifications at a lower cost than most in the sector. With this, the company gained a lot of hype and attention and quickly grew to the company it is today. Since then, the company has been bought out by Oppo and Carl Pei left the company in October 2020. He has now created another technology company called Nothing that aims to bring the seamless ecosystem that Apple offers at a lower cost while being more open-ended. The first product they released were wireless earbuds similar to Apple’s AirPods Pro, but for a fraction of the cost. I own both AirPods Pro and Nothing’s ear(1), and they offer more for the price compared to AirPods Pro. While they are not as good, what you get for the price is crazy! Recently, Nothing released an Android phone in Europe but not in the US, unfortunately.

Carl Pei has shown an entrepreneurial spirit in the businesses he has created and the innovation he has pushed. He is challenging mega-corporations like Samsung, Google, and Apple to innovate. He has inspired many to create and not be afraid to compete with some of the most powerful companies in the world! His creative mind is infectious and inspires so many people. Not only is he creating noise in the market, but his products have quality and he does things right the first time with a unique touch.

Ekaterina Demenkova

Ekaterina Demenkova recently made it on the Twenty Under Twenty list, where she pitched her health tracking app, PODIL. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, and is the Founder and CEO of PODIL. This type of position comes with great responsibility, but Ekaterina was passionate about her innovative cause and became an established young entrepreneur that helps many people with her creation.

PODIL promotes wellness, and allows its users to meet their health and wellness goals through an AI. The AI assistant gives the user a list of steps specifically curated for them that helps make someone’s health goals attainable. It utilizes a communal platform where people can share their accomplishments with their friends and family, and compete in challenges together.

Ekaterina’s overall goal was to make health information and personal health tips more accessible, and her app does just that. Her mission is to help people develop healthy habits, and grow easily, and PODIL uses technology to her advantage in doing so.

She is a perfect example of an innovative, young entrepreneur, especially considered what she has accomplished at such a young age. She revolutionized a new way to receive accurate, efficient, and reliable health information and advice so that people can make positive and healthy changes in their lives.

Pintrest

Before founding Pinterest, Ben Silbermann was employed at Google where he worked in advertising. Eventually he left Google and began designing various iPhone apps. After a rocky first app launch Ben began working with Evan Sharp on a digital pinboard product that would eventually become Pinterest.

Initially the app was beta tested by 5,000 users who Ben kept personal contact with over the beta testing period. In 2011 the website and non-iOS apps were released to the public and Pinterest gained traction and Time Magazine named it as one of their top 50 websites of the year. Nine years later, Pinterest held its IPO at a valuation of $12 billion.

Benelab

Benelab is an alternative search engine that donates all of its ad revenue to charity. Jack Kim founded the non-profit when he was 16, in 2011, after realizing how much money a major search engine, like google, is able to generate. Searching for information is one of the largest markets on the internet and Benelab seeks to tap into that by redirecting funds to help solve issues around the world. Each month, the team (initially consisting of Kim and his schoolmates) selects a new charity to support and sends out a newsletter to keep their users updated. Benelab highlighst how if just 0.0001 percent of the aproximate 4.1 billion web searches each day occurred through the site, it could donate $250,000 a month to non-profit causes.

Alex Klein: The Man Behind Kano

Alex Klein is a 32 year old entrepreneur from London, England. He is most notable for being the co-founder of Kano Computing. In 2013 when Klein was fresh out of college, his 6 year old cousin raised concern for the fact that building a computer was hard and that he wanted it to be just as easy as building with Legos. Thus, Alex and his older brother Saul created a Kickstarter to raise money for research and development of a computer that was easy to put together and could teach children how to use computers at a basic level. One of the early contributors to the development of Kano was Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Since the development of their first computer kit, they have entered partnerships with Disney and Microsoft for tech related products. In 2019, Klein became friends and spent a lot of time with another famous entrepreneur, Kanye West. Since their friendship took off, Kanye has invested money in Kano and Kanye has made Alex the lead for YZY Tech where he came out with their first breakthrough product, the Stem Player.

Klein’s story is unique because he took a simple question from his cousin and has transformed it into a multi-million dollar tech company making strides outside of the world of computers. The idea of the Kano Computer Kit is fascinating as Alex and his brother did everything they could to cut down on the components of a computer and also make the set up so simple a child could do it. When it comes to innovation, Klein has pushed for new technological creations in recent years. With his newest device Stem Player, he has made a handheld music editing device which allows the user to split or “stem” songs into isolated sections such as main vocals, background vocals, snare, and 808’s. Alex Klein is a very inspiring entrepreneur in the tech world as he showed that even the smallest questions brought into our lives should not be passed up as there might be a new innovative field to come from it.

The Orbit Mouse

Simon Hochleitner realized that computer mouse devices haven’t really changed much since their original design, which means that problems associated with them haven’t really been addressed very much. He battles the health issues associated with sitting at a computer by adjusting the make of the mouse. This resolves the problem of repetitive strain injury in the wrist, mostly by shifting the movement away from the wrist and hand and making it a slight upper body workout, which improves posture. Simon is driven by the desire to acknowledge and fix a very common problem that hasn’t been addressed. One very interesting thing about their business is that they have an extremely helpful and thorough product website that explains why this innovation is necessary. It even dives into the medical side of things with charts and explanatory graphs. Their product is highly unique in that it doesn’t change the shape of the mouse, but rather the way it is used. Three strings connect the mouse to the ends of a mouse holder apparatus, making it so that you have to exert a bit of upper body strength to move it, which in turn encourages better posture and less slouching. It also improves the way your wrist and hand muscles interact with the mouse, preventing a common health issue that affects frequent computer users, called mousehand. They innovated their product even further by creating two different models of the mouse: the joystick and the flat model. The flat model is specifically marketed to gamers and quick twitch computer users, while the joystick is used for everyday computer users. These innovators and this product have inspired me in my own life and entrepreneurial journey because it combines an everyday product that has been around for ages, and uses health and fitness to supplement it to design a great product that can help anyone with a computer.
