David Karp: Founder of Tumbler

David Karp was 20 when he had created Tumbler. When David was 17 he went to Tokyo to master his computer coding skills. like most entrepreneurs David created Tumbler in his mothers apartment basement in New York. Tumbler is described as a combination of Twitter, YouTube, and WordPress. Tumbler was launched in the year 2017 and gained 75,000 user in the first fortnight. Davids vision for Tumbler was for the use of meritocratic network for bloggers. David say’s “Particularly in the first three years, there were a lot of [mergers and acquisitions] people who would pull you aside and you’d think ‘Well, shit, I could be a pretty rich 23-year-old with very little effort”. David had a lot of temptations to sell his company for a large amount of money but decided to stick wit it for a little while. In 2013 Yahoo purchased tumbler for over 1 Billion dollars. Then four years later Verizon purchased Yahoo including Tumbler in the buy, for 4.5 Billion dollars in 2017.

“I beg you to understand that my decision comes after months of reflection on my personal ambitions, and at no cost to my hopefulness for Tumblr’s future or the impact I know it can have”. David has decided to leave the company and pursue other things. Tumbler has been going through some drastic changes in the past 5 years.

David Karp EBE09 (cropped).jpgDavid Karp is the American web developer and entrepreneur that created Tumbler. He is the founder and former CEO of the company.Tumbler has been valued at $800 million. He bagan his career as an intern under Fred Seibert at the animation company Frederator Studios, where he built the studio’s first blogging platform. Karp went on to start his own software consulting company, Davidville. During a gap between contracts in 2006, he began working on a microblogging website, which he launched as Tumblerin February 2007. As of November 1, 2017, Tumblr hosts over 375.4 million blogs. In August 2009, Karp was named Best Young Tech Entreprenaur 2009 by BuisnessWeek. In 2010, he was named in the MIT Technology ReviewTR35 as on of the top 35 innovators in the world under the age of 35. On May 20. 2013, Yahoo! and Tumblr reached an agreement where Yahoo! acquired Tumblr for $1.1 billion.
