HIVED – Murvah Iqbal

Murvah grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, so always hearing about their business stories inspired her and drove her desire to be one as well. It allowed her to start thinking at a young age how she could solve issues in her community through business. After attending King’s College in London, 25 year old Murvah and her now business partner Mathias Krieger started to notice the heavy pollution that diesel delivery vehicles were putting into the city. The pollution was not just hurting the environment but the amount of deaths that occurred each year resulting from these emissions was alarming and drove this team to find a solution. This is where HIVED was born. They are officially the biggest zero-emissions delivery fleet in the world. Murvah and Mathias and the rest of their team set to work doing lots of research and studies on many different delivery vehicles and found that the whole delivery system as a whole was very inefficient and low quality in general. So, now they decided to not only make a ecofriendly delivery company, but one that was set to a higher standard and much more efficient than the average delivery company. HIVED started in 2021, and now has been used by some really big companies like Nespresso, Grubby, and Candy Kittens. Not only that but they have acquired $2.4 million in investments and have used it to acquire multiple electric delivery vans and cargo bikes. Their story especially inspired me because of the huge undertaking it was to start a delivery company amid all of the other large delivery companies already out there, especially only being in their mid twenties. Murvah and her partner were told “Good luck” and had many reasons to be discouraged about their business since not many people saw potential in it. However, they didn’t let that discourage them from taking risks and doing something that they knew could really benefit people and their city. Now they have many satisfied customers and hope for much success in the future. As ecommerce continues to grow, so will their business once people realize the need and importance for ecofriendly delivery.

Hart Main

One day a little boy named Hart Main walked in his sister’s room. She had a candle in her room and the scent was very girly. He did not like the scent and wanted things to change. However, that may have not been his main motive. According to TimesReporter, he chose to start his own company so that he could buy a 1200-dollar bike to compete in a triathlon. His parents would not help him buy it and so he needed money to purchase it himself. So he started a candle company called Man Cans. His idea turned into a business and was focused on producing manly scented candles.

His product was spreading to family and friends. Eventually it even reached to other candle companies like Beaver Creek Candle Company. It also sold to over 150 stores across the United States. He even did a donation of food for good purposes to build up communities. As his company was grew, he used his wealth for good purposes. (TimesReporter).

At the beginning of his business, he came up with an idea to use cans for his candles. There was something more manly of the appearance of using a candle, also there are some many empty cans from purchasing soup and other food from the store. He grew his production by having reused cans and would polish them make candles out of them. This also helped fix a problem of reducing waste and coming up with new ways to use products. From this idea he gained much profit. He even extended his comapany MansCans to car scent candles which are available at several car shops.

In conclusion, this young entrepreneur was an example of finding a simple product and making it different. Using candles is unique, and also targeting men. He also found a way to reuse products which gave him much profit.

. Ben Pasternak – Founder of Flogg and Monkey Ben Pasternak is a prime example of how young entrepreneurs can shape industries and redefine the future. Starting his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 15, Ben created an app called Flogg, which was essentially an Instagram for buying and selling items. The app quickly gained traction, leading to its acquisition by a larger company. But Ben didn’t stop there—he went on to co-found Monkey, a video chat app that allowed users to connect randomly with others based on shared interests. Monkey became incredibly popular, especially among teenagers, and was later acquired by a major social media company. What makes Ben’s journey so inspiring to me is his determination to innovate and disrupt traditional industries at a young age. His ability to pivot, create products that resonate with users, and leverage the power of social media for business success shows that age is no barrier to entrepreneurship. Today, Ben continues to explore new ideas and opportunities in tech and social media, aiming to build products that enhance human connection. Being so young doing this has allowed him to discover so much about the business world and gave him much experience. he now will understand the rest of his life how businesses are ran and what it takes to be successful. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=40da0999742ab38bd9ac564d3300040b5628e57e56c47ae817a95a62b451aa2bJmltdHM9MTczMzYxNjAwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=310dfa9e-732a-625c-09ab-ee7972fe63bc&psq=ben+pasternak&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZm9yYmVzLmNvbS9wcm9maWxlL2Jlbi1wYXN0ZXJuYWsv&ntb=1

Ben Pasternak: Aussie entrepreneur launches Nuggs, pea protein chicken ...

Gecko Robotics

Jake Loosararian is perhaps one of the most interesting businesses that came out of Grove City College. He started off as an electrical engineer major with a school project. His team built a rather large robot with a scanner that collects data in risky environments that human workers do not want to work in. This one design is estimated to save power plants over tens of millions of dollars in labor costs and time.

Loosararian was warned by professors and family to not create a business with this idea, and validly so. Over 70% of hardware startups crash and burn. Overhead costs are extreme, and these types of companies rarely grow. He graduated in 2013 and then soon co-founded Gecko Robotics. He even confessed to working over 100-hour weeks to save money for his passion project. Loosararian spent time doing ugly jobs and working to understand what his robots were required to do on a day-to-day basis. He got a job in system automation and absolutely hated it. When he quit his main job and started working on Gecko, his co-founder had to step back and left the business.

He describes his business as a secret hiding in plain sight and that he could practically see the business succeeding. It got tough though and he was down to his last dollars. He constantly worried about failing and people being right on how he couldn’t do it.

Today, Gecko Robotics is ever-growing with over $220 million in funding. Which is not a small number. The company is valued at over $633 million and very successful. This impressive because when he started, he had at max $15,000 in savings and knew it wasn’t enough to actually start a business.

Ryan Hickman: CEO of Ryan’s Recycling

Meet the Eleven Year Old Behind Ryan's Recycling Company | Discovery Time

Ryan Hickman’s love for recycling began in 2012 when he was only 3 and a half years old after his dad took him to the local recycling center. He realized at a young age that everyone had a part to play in maintaining the environment. Ryan played his part by creating his own business: Ryan’s Recycling Company. He started his business ventures by handing out empty plastic bags to his neighbors in his hometown of Orange County, California in hopes that they would save their cans and bottles for him to recycle. The friends, families, and coworkers of his neighbors also saved their recyclables for Ryan too. He soon had customers all over Orange County. On the weekends, Ryan and his dad would drive around to local houses to collect their cans and bottles, sort through his customers’ recyclables, and deliver them to the recycling center. Within a decade of Ryan’s Recycling Company, Ryan had successfully collected and recycled 1.6 million cans and bottles. His motivation for his business stems from his determination to help the environment.

Ryan’s passion for recycling will stay with him for his entire life. All of the money he earns through Ryan’s Recycling goes towards his college education. Though he is still young, Ryan’s current plan is to attend a college close to home so that he can continue to run his recycling company while in college. Ryan is also a Youth Ambassador at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, California and gives them the proceeds from selling t-shirts and hats with the Ryan’s Recycling logo on them. Ryan says that the Center’s mission is to “rescue sick and injured seals and sea lions to help them get better.” Additionally, in 2020, Ryan founded a nonprofit called Project3R, which strives to inform and educate others on the importance of recycling and to increase environmental awareness among all people. Project 3R also hosts community events such as beach cleanups. Ryan is inspiring his friends, neighbors, and community to make the world a better place. “It feels good knowing that I make a difference,” Ryan says. “I just know that people are inspired, and they aren’t littering, and [they are] picking up as much trash as they see on the ground.”

Josh Pask: Athlete and Entrepeneur

Pask’s Removals is a removal company that has established itself as one of the top removal companies in London. The owner, Josh Pask, 27, has had a fascinating journey bringing this business to life.

Sal Khan’s Academy

74 Interview: Sal Khan on Personalized Learning, a Global Diploma, and How He'd Spend $100 million – The 74

Most of us are familiar with the frustration of not understanding our math homework. In our dismay, we may have turned to Google, and we were blessed with a wise Khan Academy video. Today, Khan Academy is a thriving non-profit educational organization. Khan Academy’s roots are a great example of innovation and the power of harnessing  the web to meet needs within a market.

Salman Khan got the idea for Khan Academy in 2004 after remotely tutoring his cousin, Nadia, who was struggling to understand unit conversion in her math class. Sal was working as a hedge fund analyst in Boston while Nadia was living in New Orleans, so he tutored her on the phone and through Yahoo Doodle. After Sal helped Nadia improve in her math class, more of his cousins and family members also asked for help. Because of the high demand on top of his job, Sal decided to make videos and post them on Youtube in 2006. The videos gained traction and Sal continued making videos in his spare time.

He officially started Khan Academy in 2008 with the mission to “provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere.” The curriculum expanded to concepts from math and finance to history and art. To make the platform engaging, they utilize smart design. You can earn points and badges as you progress through the courses, which adds fun and fosters goals in users. Khan Academy has also expanded its reach to students by translating their content into the world’s 36 most spoken languages. This is a great example of using technology to increase accessibility.

In 2009, Sal quit his hedge fund job and pursued Khan Academy full time. He lived off his savings for the first nine months until he received donations and a $2 million grant from Google and a $1.5 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Sal recruited his former high school and college roommate at MIT, Shantanu Sinha, to join him as President and COO. They also expanded their team with  Ben Kamens and Jason Rosoff,  two software designers who are responsible for Khan’s unique design.

The development of Khan Academy is a great example of growing an online learning platform. Sal made smart business moves throughout Khan’s development and collaborated with expert designers to truly set his organization apart.
