Eterneva

Eterneva

“Makes memorial diamonds out of the cremated remains of loved ones.”

This startup was born from personal loss. The founder, Adelle Archer, lost her mentor to a battle with pancreatic cancer. She discovered the lack of options of ways to commemorate loved ones. The business Archer was working for at the time was researching diamond development that, combined with a trend in cremation over burials led her to wonder if the carbon from the ashes of loved ones could be used to create diamonds. She found a few other companies were successfully doing so and began working on her own way of sentimentally including passed loved ones in life. Eterneva sends a small portion of ashes to Amsterdam where the eight month process begins. Unlike competitors, Enterneva includes the buyers in the process by sending text updates throughout the eight months. They build close relationships with their customers throughout this time and appreciate the person being memorialized. Customers can also pick from a variety of colors- traditional clear, red, pink, yellow, blue, green, and black. Many families pick colors that were special to their loved ones.

Will this be an accepted way to move foreword in grief?

Admittedly, this does sound a bit strange at first. However, Archer explains, diamonds allow people to pass the memory of loved ones down generations where ashes in urns do not. At first I thought who would ever turn someone they loved into a piece of jewelry? The more I read about this idea, the more it began to make sense to me. Life is beautiful, why would we not want to commemorate it in a way that reflects the beautiful people we get to share it with? This is a deeply connective idea, I believe there is truth in saying the diamonds can be an excellent way to grieve losing a loved one and still feel connected to them.

What is the cost of Eterneva?

Diamonds made naturally are pricey to begin with, how does Eterneva compare? Eternrava asks $7,000 for .5 carat diamonds. It is in fact more expensive than natural diamonds, however these diamonds have a much more emotional factor to them.

Brian Chesky

I am sure nowadays everyone either knows or has in some way heard the name Airbnb or personally used the app. This app has completely revolutionized to travel and hotel industry and was created by some of the youngest entrepreneurs. The co-founder of Airbnb is only 37 years old named Brian Chesky .When he first got started with his business he was only 27 years old. I found him and his business interesting because he completely innovated the hotel business with his business. Before his business if you wanted to stay somewhere you had basically three options. You would have to stay in a hotel, motel, or with a friend or family. If you didn’t have any friends or family in the area you were forced to settle with spending the money. Airbnb changed that.

So far, about 44.8 million adults are using Airbnb worldwide. In 2014 their website surpassed 800,000 listings. That means they have surpassed Hilton Worldwide, the InterContinental Hotels Group or any other hotel chain in the world in logging numbers. The business is only getting bigger and bigger each year as well.

When asked about what he credits his success to he said, “childlike curiosity and wonder…[is] probably the most important trait you can have, especially as an entrepreneur.” His promotion of the importance of a young perspective is inspiring because it gives me hope that I could possibly come up with a successful idea just like he did.

I am also inspired to look for the mashups. He saw people who needed places to stay who also didn’t want to pay a ton and placed them with people who were willing to rent out their own property. They found a way for people to make money using things they already own and to satisfy the need for travelers to have a cheaper more homelike stay.

People like Chesky are helping to inspire young thinkers everywhere to believe in their ideas and try to make a difference in the world every day.

Kylie Jenner: Soon-To-Be World’s Youngest, Self-Made Billionaire

Kardashian. This is the name that with one utterance, can spark debate in almost any room. This one simple name divides Americans and causes them to either rave with admiration or mock with scorn and disdain.

The name, “Kardashian” was made famous by the Los Angeles, “it” family when they started their reality television show: Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2007. The show features a day in the life of the Kardashian-Jenner family and the exhilarating drama these socialites encounter.

The youngest member of the KJ clan is Kylie Jenner who is quickly emerging her entrepreneurial career at the age of 20 years old. Kylie has premiered on the show many times over the last 11 years and has gained an enormous amount of fame and a fan base of over 150 million because of it. Regardless of what people may think of Kylie and her family, she has utilized the exposure from the show to propel her career and to become the youngest, most successful, self-made entrepreneur in the world.

In 2015, Kylie launched her own line of cosmetics: Kylie Cosmetics. She started this entrepreneurial venture because she had a passion for makeup, because she saw an unmet need in the market, and because she realized she had the opportunity to leverage a huge platform from her already established reputation. She understood her target market and she sought to please them.

Kylie did not just blindly enter into the cosmetics world. She strategically planned for years before she actually launched her first line of lipsticks. She discovered a niche in the cosmetic market, and through understanding her target customers, she branded herself by focusing on that one specific area.

According to Elle magazine, Kylie Cosmetics sold out of all 6 lipsticks in the first 10 minutes of their release. 15 days later, when the lipsticks were restocked, all 6 sold out in the first two minutes. Whether or not this “shortage” was intentional, many believe this rush to purchase Kylie’s line was due to her marketing genius.

She not only stimulated anticipation for the release of her new line through her multiple social media platforms, she also kept in constant communication with her fans, letting them know when the lipsticks would be restocked and where they would be able find them. She also showed a considerable amount of public relations expertise by encouraging her fans not to buy from outside vendors who purchased the lipsticks for their original price of $29 and marked them up to as much as $225 on sites like eBay. In July of 2018, Forbes estimated her company at nearly $900 million. Over the next year, Kylie is expected to become the youngest self-made billionaire ever.

Kylie Jenner displays an immense amount of ambition, motivation, and persistence – traits that are necessary for any entrepreneur looking to start a business. Many may attribute her success to her family’s already established fame and reputation, but the bottom line is that she is an inspiring, young entrepreneur who has strategically used the resources at her disposal to create a cosmetic empire.

GCC Student to Full-time Entrepreneur

Connor Grieb, a 2018 graduate of Grove City College is already self-employed, as the owner of SEO Vineyard, a digital marketing company. He first discovered his entrepreneurial mindset when he was twelve years old and started a snow removal business. This led him to buying a truck and plowing commercially Connor Grieb SEO VINEYARDthroughout his high-school career. This experience showed him how much he loved working for himself and he developed a growing desire to be an entrepreneur in the future. He also decided that he didn’t want to do work that relied on weather or a lot of physical strength. Some other things that drove him to be an entrepreneur include the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, the opportunity to be extremely successful, the uncapped financial opportunity, a flexible schedule, and less risk in the long run. During his college career, he discovered that through digital marketing, he could meet all of his needs and desires.

He launched his company, SEO Vineyard during the beginning of his junior year of college. While taking classes, he was also providing services for 3 clients. Unfortunately, he could not manage any more clients with all of his school work. Therefore, he focused on maintaining a good relationship with his few clients. Since graduation, Connor has quadrupled the size of his business. He now has over 12 clients, which he has acquired in 4 short months. However, Connor notes that obtaininSEO Vineyardg new clients was not easy. There was an 8 week span where he didn’t add a single client or make an extra dollar, but through the support of friends and family, he continued to work hard and push through this hard time. He encourages other entrepreneurs to do the same because God has a bigger plan and things do get better. Also this past summer, he became an LLC, partnering with an accountant and an attorney. He did this to create a veil of protection for himself and his business.

From Connors experiences, he has learned a lot about himself and entrepreneurship. The biggest thing that he has learned is patience. He had to wait to graduate to expand his business. He had to wait for prospective clients to return phone calls. He has to wait to become successful. Through the process of starting and building his company, he has become more reasonable with his expectations and is taking things one step at a time. Connor also discovered that one of his strongest entrepreneurial traits is competition. This trait pushes him to improve and make adjustments to the mistakes he has made. He hopes to continue to attract new clients and expand his business.

Trash to Cash – Wonky Drinks by Karina Sudentye and Maciek Kacprzyk

Karina Sudenyte, a 22 year-old BA studying for a BA in business management, and Maciek Kacprzyk, a 25 year-old with two masters degrees in law co-own an extremely environmentally conscious fresh juice business, Get Wonky. Their aim is to cut down on the astronomical number of fruit thrown away into the garbage. The fruit and vegetables used are not viable for the produce markets because they are “defective”. Get Wonky takes produce from the growers that would otherwise be unusable due to being misshapen or discolored and makes them into a desirable product. They do this by juicing and bottling the “defective” produce using Grandma’s recipe in 100% recyclable glass bottles and sustainable catering pack to reduce plastic waste.

I really appreciate this young company because they center their business practice around environmental sustainability, which the marketplace is in desperate need of. Their mission is to “Give wonky fruit a chance”. More specifically, they aim to produce delicious drinks, support growers that can’t shift wonky produce, reinvest all profits into saving more fruit, and reduce food and packaging waste.

18-Year Old’s “Fresquiticos” Soda Innovation

A bright Stanford freshman is ready to tackle the world with her new idea. Nicole Birkner of Costa Rica is an 18 year old entrepreneur making her dream a reality with her new business “Fresquiticos.” Growing up, Nicole was only allowed to drink soda on weekends. So during a Sunday beverage she began to wonder, “What can I do to be able to enjoy soda on week days?” She began experimenting with local Costa Rican fruit juices and sugars and began to develop all-natural recipes for making homemade soda. She had invented fruit juice soda, with Costa Rican fruits, carbonated spring water and agave nectar for a much healthier sweetener.

During her junior year, her teacher organized an entrepreneur-esque class of developing a project over the course of six months. This would be the perfect stage to showcase her idea. With research taking the form of a 45-page essay, and countless experimenting to concoct 50 bottles of soda, Nicole received 100% grades from all judges at the final presentation. From this encouraging result and success, Nicole went on to compete in “The Diamond Challenge for High School Entrepreneurs.” It was here she worked with her colleague Diego Uribe on the project to prepare for the Challenge. Along the way Nicole decided that 10% of the profits would go to her own “Youth in Motion” program in Costa Rica to fund the foundation extracurricular activities for public schools in her country. Also she decided to use recyclable glass bottles for the sodas to reduce waste.

Nicole plans to begin distributing her product in Costa Rican schools where soda is not allowed. She is hoping to provide a healthier alternative to soda, that is all natural and tasty. She is in contact with supermarket chains in Costa Rica and some retailers in the United States. Nicole has even spoken at TEDxPuraVida in Costa Rica.

Nicole gives a motivating quote; “Ever since I was young, I would hear people complaining about everything, but they would do absolutely nothing about the problems. I want people to see me changing things and want to change things themselves.”

Tonami’s Creations: For Children Aged 4 to 95 Years

Tonami’s Creations is the creation of Tonami Abiona, 7 year-old Nigerian entrepreneur who loves to draw, paint, color, write, and create.

At the humble age of five, Tonami began creating her own books of sorts, collections of art and stories. She gave them to her friends, wanting to spread her love for creation, and encouraged them to do the same thing. Her simple art form soon turned into a business opportunity when she was approached by Kid Entrepreneurs, “an organization that is primarily focused on raising the next generation of entrepreneurs;” they wanted to showcase her product!

A few pivots later, Tonami, with the help of her computer engineer and entrepreneur mum and financial analyst dad, arrived at what is now the My Story Book Kit. This product is “a creative writing resource for young readers, writers and illustrators,” containing a detailed instruction manual that guides kids through the contents and their own story-writing process. The kit encourages kids to be creative, and sharpens problem skills, all the while helping with personal and educational development.

Tonami’s branding is, quite frankly, genius. It’s a brand by kids, for kids, but appealing to parents, teachers, and gift-givers as well. The business increases their presence by showcasing at events and offering their products through different retailers. They also market the My Story Book Kit as a great gift idea and sell t-shirts to increase brand awareness.

Taking an everyday piece of joy and turning it into a business, Tonami’s Creations has re-created the way kids around the world look at creativity. To see their website, click here.

Ten year old Girl Makes Heartfelt Impact

Lorelei McIntyre-Brewer is a ten-year-old from Duncannon, Pennsylvania. She was born missing half of her heart, and her twin brother, Rory, passed away before the two could ever meet. She underwent major open heart surgery shortly after birth and has since then undergone 21 medical procedures including three open heart surgeries.

After her third open heart surgery, Lorelei’s lungs collapsed and she underwent a long grueling recovery where she was given a compression heart pillow to relieve the pain… but the pillow was much to big for a girl like herself. This made her think… why aren’t their smaller compression heart pillows made for children? So then at the age of 5 her mother taught her to sew and she began making compression heart pillows for pediatric open heart patients, aiding them in their own recovery’s. She named her organization Heart Hugs, and it spread like wildfire!

Heart Hugs works with children’s hospitals, orphanages and families to provide these pillows at no cost for patients and families through the kindness of volunteers around the world that help Lorelei ensure that no child is turned away. Her non-profit organization has only been the start of her work as she helps her brother Cavan, the 2015 Army Military Child of the Year, manage Socks for Vets, which provides goods for veterans and helped to train and care fore goats used in providing service support to wounded warriors.

Lorelei has been nationally recognized, receiving recognition from the Points of Light Foundation, the Maryland Volunteerism Award, and being featured on Dr. Oz show in 2015. She is affiliated with many organizations, including 4-H where she was recognized in 2016 and 2017, where I was lucky enough to meet her in person at multiple state conferences. Lorelei is not even thinking about slowing down. As she explained, “I am missing half of my heart, and people sometimes think I can’t do anything, but I can.” And she does.
